I saw on Reddit that Sarcone's Deli is closed. Is that true? That is terrible news if correct.

Now granted, I haven't been in a while because I haven't been in the area since Christmas. I tend to hit John's Roast Pork for my sandwich fix, but darnit, those were my favorite hoagies in the city! They catered my daughter's 2nd b-day.

A post on their fb page a couple weeks ago has them looking for a 1,000 sq ft space. They didn't specify whether for an additional location or a replacement for their current place.

"hey looking for small 1000sq feet store front if anyone has this reply to our facebook.thank you."

Well at least it's only the Deli and not the bakery.

I stopped by on Saturday for a hoagie, only to find one of those red/orange cease and desist notices stuck to the door.

I like Primo's. Although they've become a franchise chain in 4 states, they still have their original South Philly location at 1528 Ritner St. Their hours are kinda short though (varies by location):

    1528 Ritner St.
    Hours
    Mon-Sat 9:00am - 4:00pm
    Sun 9:00am - 1:30pm

A philly dot com comment says that notice was regarding unpaid taxes; can anyone confirm?

"I am surprised the article does not mention the large city notices pasted on the front saying that they have been closed down for significant tax violations."

The city had shut down the deli last month over back taxes that since had been paid. In a Facebook message on Aug. 4, owner Anthony Bucci cited a heart condition in his decision not to reopen. “Im sorry and i love you all.this is hard for me to walk away but my health is all i have,” he wrote. He did not return a text message left on his cell phone.

Aha, I'm pretty sure the bit about taxes was added to the article later.

For years I've alternated between Sarcone's and Ricci's (Ricci's Hoagies). I like them both, but I am saddened to see Sarcone's go. I'll miss Jill, the no-nonsense counter woman. She exemplified a certain Philadelphia je ne sais quoi.

I've been hitting Ricci's which is still walkable. Sarcone's hoagies are so big, even half was more than I could manage.
