you would think any police captain worth his salt would keep this man off the street...if cops really want respect from the public they would get rid of fools like Gress

He's no longer technically allowed on south street during his shift. He has been patrolling the wash west and center city area during his shifts.

it's just like with teachers. It's nearly impossible to fire a cop. Maybe if their respective unions concentrated more on earning their workers a better wage (both jobs deserve to be paid far more in this city IMHO) instead of working so hard to keep their WORST employees entrenched in their positions things would work out a lot better for all parties involved.

This is a that d***head cop on a bike with glasses right? I remember from my South Street days that he was always mixing it up with someone and just being an arrogant, over-aggressive "tough guy" with a badge. I wasn't surprised to read about his long list of lawsuits.

The article has since been updated. Apparently Officer Gress has a brother who is also PPD.

But on Tuesday afternoon, John McNesby, president of Philadelphia’s police union, said William Gress was not at the protest. McNesby said Gress’ brother, Brian, a lieutenant in the Counter Terrorism Unit, was there. He said he did not know if Brian Gress was involved in the incident with Wang.

Asked about that, Wang’s lawyer, Paul Messing, said: “We had several people tell us it was William Gress … including a source in the city,” whom he did not identify. But if the suit names the wrong officer, Messing said, “we’ll have to reframe the complaint.”

My post that you quoted was from 2012, which was about the South Street Gress...not the Gress in the news in 2018.
