Night Market is coming to ... N.E. Phila.!

As an interesting follow-up to LaBan's article about the foods of the Northeast, Night Market is having its first, May 11th, at the Five Points intersection.

Hi-larious comments from suburbanites in the comments section, of course.

We've had twice monthly Night Markets in Mayfair for years now.

Can't wait for the West Philly one. Just a quick walk from my house. I'll pick the kid up early from daycare and head right there.

If you don't get there before the announced time, good luck trying to eat anything at all. The lines are crazy. Luckily, the students will be home for the summer.

The crowds are crazy! My daughter and I are short and we left the one on South Street a few years ago because we couldn't see anything except people's backs! I couldn't tell you what food vendors were there!

About an hour or so in, they get too crowded, especially on a street like South Street. I'm hoping that the larger area at 5 Points makes it a little less stifling. I can't deal with that sized crowd either, and I can see over a lot of people! These days, I can't bring the dog out on days like this, or even Oktoberfest at this point.

West Philly's Dollar Stroll is a no-go for us with a 3 year old. It's just too much.

I think we went 30 minutes early for the night market on Lancaster two years ago and had no problems.

We took our 3 year old to Dollar Stroll and it wasn't too bad. We'll take her again this year.

I do agree that some of the nice markets locations have been worked better than others.

We really liked Lancaster Ave and Navy Yard. We didn't like China Town and were sort of eh on South Street.

Fiance (who will be husband by then) is 6'2" and has no problem with crowds! I will take HG's suggestion and go early to Italian Market Night Market at least because he's excited. Maybe we'll hit up some others as well.

Also, if you haven't been yet, The Italian Market Festival held May 20-21 this year. It's crowded, but because it's all day and over two days, the crowds are far more manageable.

I go every year. Hard to miss that one- it's two blocks away and if I go anywhere by car, there is no place to park when I get back. I'll miss this one. My wedding is April 22 and we'll be in Alaska for much of May.
