Saw an orange permit application in the window of the Falls Taproom. Applicant is Old Falls Cafe. Anybody know the story? Is the Taproom closing?

That's good news... The Taproom is my favorite go to place in East Falls.

+1. We went Saturday, after having not gone for too long, and it was great. Big ups for the Falls Taproom - it's a wonderful place to have in the hood. We're lucky to have them.

Bars are required to post that every year or whenever they are renewing their license.

I don't go to many drinking establishments anymore so it might be a common term again, but when I saw Taproom it brought back a flood of memories of bygone times. I do pickup some craft brews by the bottle and I must say The Falls Taproom has a great selection of bottled beer, according to it's menu.

    My favorite Falls Taproom memory:
While I'm sitting at the bar in the late afternoon on a weekend, a heavyset woman hustles in from the bus stop and breathlessly orders an Incredible Hulk to go. The bartender doesn't miss a beat and politely informs her that they do not carry Hennessy nor Hypnotiq. Undeterred, she orders another drink to go. She is politely reminded that alcoholic beverages are not available on a drive thru basis, mumbles something under her breath, picks up her purse and hustles out the door.

    I don't get it.
    She wasn't driving.
What if she had a bag to conceal the drink?
What does being heavyset have to do anything?
Why doesn't this place sell Henny?

    Sounds raciss to me.

Just trying to illustrate a situation where the Falls Taproom staff showed an abundance of politeness in the face of a customer that was completely clueless and asking them to violate the sacred alcohol laws of the commonwealth. Read it however you like.

What the hell is going on with this place?

Anyone else get the sense it's been abandoned and left for dead?

Ha. Taproom. Feels like a shadow of its former self from a couple years ago. Almost seems like it's under different [less attentive] ownership and/or management.

(The site is toast too, but we all know why that happened.)

I probably end up there for dinner and drinks about once a year and was last there probably in the fall and didn't notice anything different or lacking. Can you elaborate?

Used to be pretty crowded 3 or 4 nights per week. Now it doesn't ever appear to have many patrons. Last few times I've been there the staff has been anywhere from "indifferent" to "unnecessarily hostile" even though we were the only ones there. The upstairs was a pretty cool spot but I believe is been closed for quite a while. Just throwing off an all-around bad vibe past year or so.

Also, they're getting slaughtered on the health inspections: Food Establishment Inspection Report

Why is this site toast? I don't know what happened. All I know is it just stopped getting any traffic.

The service there has always been subpar, IMO, even back to the Buckets days. (Although it did get somewhat better for a few years.) But the last few times I stopped in, it was like we were bothering the bartenders to actually place an order. They appeared to be more interested in texting/socializing with coworkers than serving.

It got monopolized by a few very strange people arguing endlessly about political stuff.

Yeah, the staff is unfriendly. And they always seem very inconvenienced by your beer order. Figures that was part of their schtick, like the Soup Nazi or something.
