Boston gets my vote.
Glad everyone seems to agree Gawker is the journalistic equivalent of cotton candy. It's a dubious contest to be holding and one nobody wins.
Interesting that they're using examples from the 1800's, 1980's & 1964. This is why I never read Gawker. What nonsense.
the racism here is thick. in fishtown, my wife got it from a bunch of the old timers. in brewerytown, i've gotten it from my neighbors. most recently thursday last week.
but most of it really has nothing to with the color of anothers skin. it's mostly invoked when a piece of trash doesn't want to accept responsibility for what they do. that counts for both offending skin "colors". i don't take it personally, neither does my wife.
Why was this posted in West Philly?
The topic is a bit of a running joke at the gawker site. Today, they profile Boston and its racism.
Racism played a role in many major neighborhood population shifts in West Philly in even the last 15 years. This thread could be posted in any neighborhood forum and be appropriately placed, really.
That's interesting. You make it sound like The Onion, except they take themselves more seriously.
What I think is especially odd is that you see higher-quality work coming from the writers for Gawker's other properties than you do from Gawker itself. You will never see Gizmodo or Lifehacker run a piece that is as absurd or as lazy as the piece this thread links to.
That might be true if its title were "Has Racism Ever Existed Somewhere in Philadelphia?"
No moderator to move it? Oh how I loved the Southwest Center thread when LB would move issues to The Dump.
Next time I'm pestering Nick Lai about when we are going to get Philly Flavors on Baltimore Ave, I'll have to bring up this alarming development, maybe right before I go purchase dinner from the local owners of Vientienne or Vietnam, if I don't just go for a banh mi from Fu Wah.
