Default Exciting news - new business for Cedar Park!

    Hey Guys,

I'm excited to tell you that our record store (The Marvelous - Records and Music) is moving to Cedar Park! I've always wanted to be located on Baltimore Ave and, although UPenn has been great to us in so many ways, our location current 40th St. location which is under Smokey Joe's bar has always had it's issues.

So, now we're thrilled to announce that we've come to agreement with the new owner of the former Wake Up Yoga storefront and we're planning on moving in the first half of July.

For those of you who don't know, The Marvelous is a music shop that specializes in new and used vinyl, musicians' supplies (drumsticks, strings, and things), record players, some CD's, etc.

It's a bit scary to leave our current location with it's built in customers, and great foot traffic etc, but we're very optimistic that we'll be a great fit for Cedar Park and that we'll find a friendly community of record shoppers and musicians! We're looking forward to the first dollar stroll and to contributing to Friday night Jazz. We'll have a soft opening in July and we'll keep you posted about a grand opening/housewarming party!

    See you next month,
    Milan

Please keep us updated on your progress. Since I've gotten back into records, you've been a fantastic resource.

    Best of luck!

Thats awesome. I think it will be a really good fit for the spot and its a solid addition to Baltimore Ave.
I'm really looking forward to having it so close.

With restaurant retail starting to solidify, it will be really nice to have a little more "browsing" retail on the corridor.

Milan, this is so exciting!!! The Marvelous will be such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Awesome records and musicians' gear, which musicians have sometimes bugged me to carry at VIX because they want somewhere in the neighborhood to buy it.

That and Starr's Boutique, a used/vintage/consignment clothing shop for men, women and children (Starr says it will be better than Buffalo Exchange) coming to 5015 Baltimore. But you already know about that.

Sean is right, we need more shopping besides all the eateries, wonderful as they are. I hear two more are coming to the 4900 block of Catharine (next to Peking Inn): a pizzeria and a holistic/vegan/organic cafe of some sort.

Good for you. A business like yours is an important part of any neighborhood. Let's toast to the hopeful death of the big box record store that killed so many former businesses similar to yours. I wish you all the luck in the world.

    Good luck.

I always thought that Baltimore Avenue from 49th through 52nd was an interesting, edgy, and up-and-coming retail corridor.

I don't mean to be off topic, but I wonder what ever happened to the vintage vinyl record shop that was over near Garden Court Plaza?

I'm excited to hear about this since I always thought the 40th St. locale wasn't the best spot and only recently realized that Beautiful World was closed.. Do you think you will start to carry more new releases in the new location?

And on a slightly related topic, does anyone reading this thread know of a good place nearby to get a vintage audio receiver fixed? I have a 1950s Harmon Kardon I can't seem to part with, but it needs to be repaired.

Isn't there that audio shop just before 52nd on Baltimore? Maybe the sign is just old but they claim to still carry needles for record players and other vintage equipment.

If not, let me know via PM and I'll see if I can hook you up with a friend.

I think Monk's finally gave up the ghost, but I could be wrong. I saw vinyl and stylii the last time I looked in there some years back but I'm not sure if it was ever the place for a 1950's Harmon Kardon receiver.

Thanks for the support all, the move's gone well and we should be open for business in time for the Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll next Thurs - stop by and say hey if you get the chance!

We're definitely committed to stocking more new releases - and please don't be shy about bugging us if we don't have what you want. We always wish we had more and are happy to get you what you want.

Mr. Monk's is closing in (I believe) two weeks. Very nice guy, I've bought plenty of needles from him. (and we're buying out his remaining stock of record player stylii)

WZA, you should ask at the store about the amplifier repair, we have a pretty good network for tube amps, etc. If the guys at the shop can't help, send me a PM and I can go to the mother source for you.
