Default New Restaurants in West Powelton

Stopped by the new coffee shop (38th and Lancaster) today. Looks like they're off to a slow start but it's promising. Seems like a cozy spot.

And the real highlight...Paratha Rolls, at 37th and Lancaster. They have Chaat, and they deliver! Didn't try them yet but I'm excited to no longer have to truck over to Baltimore for my fix.

Didn't realize the Indian place was open. Can't wait to try it! Thanks for the heads up.

It looked like they still had some construction to do, but the kitchen was clearly open and ready to go. I think they were a bit disappointed when we just took brochures!

Excited about the Paratha spot. I live close to another new spot called Zara but the place is a dump full of thugs. I am dissapointed as I thought it was going to be a nice place. I really hope they don't screw up the avenue because the last thing we need is another whack ghetto bar.

Zara has been off my radar screen. Sorry it is not a welcomed addition. Speaking of new additions, we (PVCA, PEC, UCD) are organizing a community happy hour at Jollie's (3800 Lancaster) on Thursday, March 29th. Hope all can come join us to meet the owners and get a feel for the new space.

Love these new additions to the avenue. Now we just need the disgraced clinic to turn into something awesome.

It is a shame because the buildings are beautiful and in the right hands that place could have been a really nice restaurant or something. We'll see how it plays out.

    So Paratha Rolls:

Decor is a bit shabby. Delivery doesn't start until next week. Not a good date restaurant. But....

The food is excellent. Medium-spicy is really medium. I assume hot is actually hot. The puri were light and tasty with a vinegary sauce. The chaat was great--perhaps a bit over-drowned in yogurt sauce. The paratha roll was the real treat. Like a tortilla wrap but wrapped in paratha instead.

It's street food, so as long as you go into it with those expectations in mind, you'll enjoy it I think. Definitely among the better options around.

The owners have another store in Upper Darby.
