    Default Miscellaneous 52nd St News

Bushfire Theatre at 52nd and Locust has its website back up with listings for the 2011-2012 season:

Our second play is the Philadelphia Premiere of Two Old Black Guys Sitting Around Talking by Gus Edwards opening on November 18, 2011 - November 30, 2011. In this humorous yet gritty play, the lives of two men Abe and Henry, who visit the same park bench daily, come together despite the outward appearance of a rivalry.

Our third production is World Premiere of The Ancestor Series: A Trilogy of One Acts by P.J. Gibson opening on March 27, 2012 - April 8 2012.

Our season finale will be the Philadelphia Premiere of A Shift in Gravity by Kathleen McGhee Anderson opening on May 15, 2012 - May 27, 2012. In this drama, unexpected literary success tests the friendship between two writers. When a young journalists visits, their buried ambitions surface and the price of success and its rewards shifts everything in their lives."
I also finally found out the hours for the Sherwood Beer Distributor between Catharine and Baltimore. They're pretty similar to my suspicion of "open really early in the morning and closed whenever I actually want to buy beer." 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. except for Mondays when they close at Noon.

While attempting to go to Sherwood, I saw a zoning notice for the vacant lot at the corner of 52nd and Baltimore which was previously advertised for sale as being perfect for a grocery. The zoning was for an outdoor BBQ with seating. Does anyone know about this? It could end up being a fun place like the Jamaican Jerk Hut but I'm picturing something more like the run down outdoor BBQ at Belmont and Lancaster.

From what I've heard, it's gonna pretty bootleg with very little in terms of physical improvements. Nothing like the Jerk Hut and probably worse than the place at Belmont and Lancaster.
This guy's apparently been a pain in Blackwell's ass for some time, so she may lobby against it.

I may not be able to contain myself.
"Several Dead After Rib Rage Attack at Zoning Meeting" reads Inquirer

Also, as much as I want ribs a stone's throw from my house, I'm not going to go to bat for another lazy business owner.

He's a pain in a lot of people's asses. He seriously thinks if he sits on that property long enough he's going to make a cool mil. The BBQ joint will probably look just like what it looks like now; he claimed to have been selling food for years out of that lot in the condition it is currently in when the neighborhood met about it a couple years ago.
