    Default Guacamole

Anyone know when this place with the nice looking paint job on Woodland is supposed to open? I am hoping between this place and Tom opening his taco joint, I can forgo the lines at Don Memo's and mediocre food and Penn kids at Chipotle....

I spoke with the owner while he was cleaning up outside the store front over the summer (probably a couple of months ago now) and he said the only thing holding them up is the city.

And it looks like Honest Tom's opened today according to foobooz.

Very cool to have a few new restaurants in the hood.

Honest Toms opened up a couple days ago. Great tasting small tacos if I say so. Very mild in spice. Guacamole was fresh, very fresh. If anything, I left still feeling hungry after ordering a pair of chicken tacos and a pork burrito.

I enjoyed Guacamole! We had plenty of food with leftovers after we order five plates for six people. The food was very fresh and I liked the flavors.

The take out containers are a drag though.

    Yay!

Both places are great although they're both still kinda getting their **** together. Had tacos al pastor at Guacamole, tortilla was a bit stiff but other wise a good taco. Not quite as spicy as I like it (but I really like spice, so no big surprise there) so I requested some hot sauce. I was pleasantly surprised that they only offer house made hot sauce. The first they brought was nice and fruity, but not exactly spicy. I asked for something stronger and they brought out another house made chili sauce that still had zest but with a nice, long habanero burn. One of the best chili sauces I've had in a long time, it really made the meal. Amazingly, you wouldn't even know they put the time and effort into crafting delicious homemade hot sauce available for free if you didn't ask, they don't them out in the dining area or advertise them at all. That stuff was so good, I would be putting a little on the side of each plate they serve.

Honest Tom's did a great pork burrito, which I definitely recommend long-time fans trying as I don't believe they did burritos in the truck. Everything is probably a dollar or two more expensive than Guac, but I would say their product is a notch above. The pork burrito was surprisingly juicy, which is not an adjective I would normally use to describe a burrito, but the meat was so tangy and succulent, it made my mouth water eating it.

Anyway, go get both, and enjoy having 200% more mexican restaurants in west philly than you did a month ago.

Guacamole is OK. A little bland to my taste as well. Agreed the takeout containers for those that choose to sit down is a bit a of a drag.

Also, I know its just because thats the regional variety of Mexican food I grew up being used to, but it would be too much to offer black beans or even whole beans instead of refried?

I know it is not in West Phila... But try Cafe con Chocolate near 21st and Snyder. Seriously the best Mexican food in the city!

I can see where you're coming from, but the house made hot sauces made up for what was missing from my entree.
