It's a sad reality that someone would bring a hand gun to a basketball tournament. To even think that something bad might happen at an event like this is really sad too. People shouldn't have to worry about the threat of gunfire all the time. I hope all of the young men recover.
What, like they designate ceasefires when they're at sporting events? These kids are creeps and they take their violent, destructive, dangerous behavior with them wherever they go. I'm not surprised at any location this stuff happens at anymore. They would shoot up a wedding or baptism if they saw somebody they didn't like in the crowd. Hell, they've already shot up a bus and a train this summer alone.

Kingsessing Rec is one of the city's designated extended hours centers for teens during the curfew. This is the second such center that has experienced violence since the curfew was enacted. That said, this was an adult league basketball game, and all of those injured were techinically adults (18-23).

Good news -- it's not just Philly. "Crime happens" everywhere.
Moments before she was slain last week on Chicago's Southwest Side, 17-year-old Charinez Jefferson begged the gunman not to shoot because she was pregnant, prosecutors said today.
Despite her plea, Timothy Jones, 18, opened fire on Jefferson anyway, yelling an expletive at her as he shot her in the head, prosecutors said. He then stood over her as she lay on the ground and fired several more times, striking her in the chest and back.

And crime happens does not discriminate as to age:

Therefore, there's no problem.
My point is that crime happens. Even in Chicago.
In every single state in the country. Yes.
And the world is round. Yes.

Crime happens, like earthquakes.
They happens.

From what I read, the intended target was shot in the back. I guess he deserved to get some for some reason or another. Maybe the person had it coming, but I'm pretty sure that the innocent bystanders didn't deserve to get shot. Statements like HG's are becoming too frequent on this board.
Back in the 90s (when it was more dangerous, imo), I used to be weary about going to basketball tournaments, because of the above. You just never knew who had beef with who and I think at this point, most people know that these criminals don't know how to shoot, nor do they care who gets caught in the cross fire. I find it hard to believe that out of 500 people, that nobody has given the police any information. Obviously after a brazen shooting, you're not going to have someone walk up to an officer and just say that they know who did it. More than likely, someone will utilize the tip line, so that they can avoid retaliation.
We know crime happens in Chicago. The Southside has a reputation for high crime.
