    SPRING GARDEN BRIDGE MURAL

I know that some Kindergartner is probably crying right now, but I am SO GLAD that his/her mural has been taken down. The city must've been smoking crack to commission a mural like that. Whew!

We know! It's so heartbreaking. The Streets Department is making necessary repairs to the Spring Garden Street Bridge, & we had hope to remove the panels & install them elsewhere, but apparently they need them there in order to do their work, so there is no hope for salvaging them.

    Hate the FRA.

City tried to remove the thing entirely.

What's stopping them from doing another mural over the plating? Isn't there similar material on the 34th St bridge over the SEPTA tracks? They put a decent mural over that, but I can't recall if it is plating or just concrete embankment.

That diamond plate is pretty resistant to paint, so they'd have to use some kind of binder or spend the time roughing up the metal. I don't really like the metal, but it sure beats that mural. I have to drive that bridge twice a day, sometimes more.

That baby with the black, dead eyes always did freak me out.

Those bridges don't have long for the world.

    It's a waste either way.

I actually liked the mural, though I agree that lumpy-headed baby was creepy! And it was looking really faded. But the new diamond plate panels are awful. The reflections are distracting. I'm dreading the day I bike over the bridge (which is already VERY dangerous for bikers in places) with really bad sun-glare reflecting off those panels.

compared to the high quality murals elsewhere in the city, that one was embarrassing and got more exposure than some of the more beautiful pieces.
