This is a loathesome story. What year is it at the LCB? I really hope to see that org needs to be dismantled or at least vastly reorganized in my lifetime.

The whole thing smells funny.
Why would a retailer be responsible for this? As long as the retail establishment bought the beer from a beer distributor wouldn't it be on the distributor and the PLCB to keep tabs on which micro-brews the distributors are carrying are current on their state registration fees.
I'd like to see them sue the PLCB for lost business. Its the PLCB's job to keep track of what beers are available at the wholesale distributor level, not the retail bar owners. They just buy the best beers available from the wholesalers.
It sounds like either competing micro-brew retail establishment or one of the big-beer makers called in a favor to get selective enforcement.
Very, very fishy.

I'm not keeping a count but a quick glance in the West Philly forum doesn't show any others. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't spend much time elsewhere on PS - because that's where I live and in my experience the other venues turn up a lot of racist trolls - and it seemed appropros since Local 44 is in West Philly. Sorry if I made a faux pas.

The article notes:
--three bars were raided; all three are owned by the same couple
--state law leaves tavern owners in the worst possible position; while the brewers are responsible for registering the names and paying the license fee for beers they wish to sell in the state, the tavern owners are the ones on the hook if they sell an unlicensed beer
The apparent requirement that every beer sold have its exact name on the list seems particularly onerous.

It appears that a suziew who has posted here might be the "anonymous tipster" and that she has an axe to grind with the owners for some reason.

Holy crap. I'm so glad for things like "see other posts by..." knowing she is such a raging anti-semite makes it even easier to place my own rage for her. (Can I say twat on PS?) I guess it's lucky for her she has buddies on the force then.
That said, was there perhaps an abuse of that relationship at hand?
Is Local 44 the same site as Murphy's Tavern? I used to go there about 20 years ago.

Nope -old Kellian's, 44th and Spruce.
Yeah it was a waste of state police resources (not local PD) that people should be writing their state rep about.
For example Jim Roebuck is state rep for the area where Local 44 is.

Or State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams, currently also running for governor. Maybe he can be "Always Hard Working" investigating why state dollars are being wasted hassling one particular set of local business owners.

Actually it was Murphy's 20 years ago, before Kellian's.
Funny, before this fiasco started, I never even knew about the Memphis Taproom. I'm certainly going to make a point of going there now.
Ahhh, yes. Thanks for the correction. Is there a link for that?
Oh nevermind, I'll just write a letter per seand's recommendation.
Any idea who SuzieW is in real life? All her posts are either restaurant reviews or something about jews/middle eastern peoples and propaganda. I just want to make sure that if she's in the restaurant biz she's not getting any of my money.

I think this is a good idea and probably very effective at getting the attention of these STATE reps. Yes, it was our state dollars wasted that day.
If I owned one of these bars, I'd be circulating flyers and petitions to support my case-which I think lots of people agree with. Maybe a standardized letter explaining the ins-and-outs of this whole mess and a place for voter/taxpayer signature.
I miss Hallwatch's faxbank.
