Default Help Support my 2012 Charity Challenge

    Hello All,

I am G-ho resident, and have lived in Philadelphia since I was four years old.

Recently I took up a charity challenge to help raise money for an organization (VSO) which helps underprivileged children in Africa. The challenge comes in two parts for me:

    1) I help raise the funds which all goes to VSO and is used to train volunteers and send them to Africa for one year. These volunteers teach children, provide medical support, and build (e.g., schools)

    2) Out of my own personal funds, I will go travel to E. Africa, with other trekkers to visit some of these kids, the volunteers and the place where the money will be utilized. Then, to symbolize the trek, we will climb Mt Kilimanjaro to symbolize reaching our summit goal.

If you'd like to donate, and/or share this information with other people please follow the link: Avi Lazar is fundraising for Voluntary Service Overseas

Volunteer Services Overseas is the largest independent charity organization in the world. It is a registered charity based in the UK.

Thank you for reading, and your support

    Why are you lying?

If you can show me where Volunteer Services Overseas is the largest independent charity in the world, I'll donate a million smackeroos.

And why would I give through you when I could just give to their website?! Ohhhhh, I know why! Because it isn't for them! Instead, the money is so that you can "raise [your] hands while standing on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, after climbing over 19,000 feet with fellow team members from all over the world." ohh, and you'll help some africans along the way.

What b.s.. Programs like this should be shut down and the people accepting donations should be arrested for fraud. All anyone has to do is google voluntary services overseas to see how it has been nothing but controversial and is more of a club med for its 'volunteers' rather than any real helping charity.

In fact, they have a new word for this pat yourself on the back form of vacationing-instead of volunteering it is called 'voluntourism'.
