This is a great project for churches. My own church (also Episcopal) sends school supplies to the after school program at Church of the Advocate every year. At this time of year, you can buy an enormous quantity of items for $20 or so and even a small group can make a real difference.

BTW, you are not just helping students but their teachers as well. I know how much my colleagues put out of their own pockets each year to buy supplies for kids who show up with nothing. We can argue why their parents don't buy these things until the cows come home but it doesn't change the fact that some parents can't or won't or just don't do it.

Where do you live? South Philly Lady (obviously) lives in So Philly and I live in Roxborough. Tell us what's good and I'm sure either of us will let you know the address.

I PMd South Philly Lady, but it might also be helpful to post church/donation locations so people can know where to donate by looking at this thread...

Good idea. In Roxborough, supplies can be taken to St. Timothy's on Ridge Avenue (across from the hospital).
