It's free. And it now runs on Windows. ANd just about any new TV has a VGA adapter in the back, or at least composite IN... you can get VGA to composite cables at Radio Shack, or use a computer that has HDMI out.
I love blu ray. Its amazing.... It makes the regular dvd players look horrible,. In picture and sound.. What does this do, blackbanana, that my blu ray don't already do??

It doesn't play physical discs. It does play just about every video, audio and photo codec or format file there is. Hard drive or WiFi.
Now that's worthwhile, thanks for the additional info. I'm been in love with Philips DVD players ever since I got my lovely DVP-642, because they play just about EVERY format and are very forgiving of improperly-encoded discs. The 5962 is also an excellent upconverter from DVD to HD. This looks they've got Philips beat as far as range of formats. (If only, like the original DVP-642, this player would ignore PUOs, it's be perfect!) I'd take a chance that their DVD upconversion to HD is pretty good too, since so many manufacturers are finally getting it right.
I'm going to check Afterdawn and Videohelp to be sure though. Looks promising.

Couldn't care less about that botched abortion that is Blu-Ray. Thanks though.

Funny enough that your cabinet is pretty close to mine!
I can utilize any media, even long-gone. I can support everything from LPs ( DJ'ed for a many years) 33/45 to DVD. In between I can support most medium. Of all, though, I'd have to say the most durable are LP and VHS.
The problem is, much of that media is outdated, much of the hardware is out of manufacture (Hi-8, VHS-C, and soon VHS itself, for example,) and most importantly, intellectual property law gets in the way. This is why I don't offer data recovera services for such media. Shame, there's a big mkarket there.

Semi-hijack. Does anyone know of an audio (or at least media) player with the following crucial feature:
* Play from my library of MP3s on an SMB (windows) share from a network drive WITHOUT having UPnP or installing any PC software?????
I have a Sangean WFR-20 Internet Radio that does this, albeit very poorly. I'd love something like squeezebox etc. but without streaming from a PC. I've got all my media on a network drive that is too old to have UPnP on it.

You may want to go to the AudioKarma link above, sign on and scroll to the Digital Formats and Music Server Forums. Someone should be able to help.

You don't need UPnP to map or use a network drive on your LAN. I keep all my music on my server. About the only thing I can think of why you *might* need UPnP is to map to a remote drive outside your router/firewall - which is an extremely bad idea from a security perspective. In fact, the very first thing you should do with a router or firewall is disable UPnP capability.

of course not... I'm talking about a music player appliance that will navigate and stream music from a NAS without any extra software or a PC being on.
Looks like that WS TV Live does that, but who knows how well. My Sangean takes about 15 minutes to "index" 3000 songs, and it seems to want to do that every time I want to play a song. On much smaller shared it's fine.
Oh, and I forgot to list:
The "Boom2000" 2.4g wireless stereo transmitter/receiver connecting my MP3 files on the home computer to the main stereo system.
(Available though the "X10" website)
I can load up a playlist upstairs in the office and listen to tunes downstairs.
No more toys for me.... enough is enough.
