Default Please recommend a GREAT compact point and shoot camera

I just bought a Canon Power Shot S110 ($450) but I do not like it to much. Why?
    1. The multi function 'ring' is bulky, making it hard to slide the camera in-out of pocket
    2. That ring is pretty over rated, not worth this inconvenience
    3. battery life is awful!
    4. The wi-fi works poorly

I had a Panasonic with Leica wide angle lens that I loved, but after years of abuse it needed to be retired.

I will spend more $$$ if necessary.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

You must know about this forum but if not: Fujifilm FinePix F800EXR: Digital Photography Review with that Fuji at $350- but the wi-fi and gps sounds difficult to sync according to one review. 16 mp though.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 for $499- sounds great but the wi-fi is optional. Sorry no hands on rec's.

Malloy- this may not be compact enough for you but my Son and I both have one of these Sonys and absolutely love them. A few years old and a 'real' Sony made in Japan, not in China. Super cam for the $$ Here is a new one on Ebay for $149! They were $400 new.. buy it! I may if you don't for a spare!

That Canon 110 is supposed to be about the best you can get.

Did you look at the S100? It seems like pretty much the same camera minus the "ring" and the wifi.

Sony Rx100 made the competition stop making cameras. Single handedly the best reviewed camera ever in its class.

    After that, the panasonic lx7.

BTW-any camera can have wifi just by getting an eyefi card at radioshack.

Do you have the Rx100? Can it still work as a 'pocket' camera? I'm ok with the price, I just want something that is portable. I'm a bit underwhelmed with this S110, but I may have had unrealistic expectations....

I have it in my pocket every day. Very compact. You can check it out at the Sony store under the Comcast center. All of my most recent photos were taken with it

If you like wifi, eye is coming out with a new lightening fast card this month. I have the old one and use it if I'm shooting time sensitive material since they have software that sends an image straight to the iPhone.

I heard the LX7 comes with a curb wrench which is a great feature for renters.

    Hahahaha!

I have the lx5 and love it.

The lx5 and lx7 are the same exact camera as comparable Leica models. Ok, Leica might not include a curb wrench. Otherwise, if you buy Panasonic you get the same exact camera as Leica for 1/2 the price.

I'm a big fan of Panasonic for many years - they just seem to "get it" what the people want and expect.
