Quick update. Opted for a Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G. Picking it up today.

After bouncing around between the Razr Maxx, the Razr, the Bionic, the iPhone 4S, and this one I've finally landed on the Galaxy as it suits what I need it to do better than the others. Open source and vanilla android for dev work, thin but not overly so, ICS out of the box, etc. etc.

Picked up an Otterbox Defender to go with it. While it is probably the bulkiest case imaginable, it is unbelievably strong and with my clumsiness it is an (unfortunate) necessity.

Excited to see just what ICS can do.

~1 month review of my experience so far. First, the negatives:

    The Bad
-Battery Life - Yes, it is pretty terrible on this phone out of the box. 4G makes it even worse. If you are going to opt for this device or something eimilar, make sure you factor in the cost of an extended battery (mine was about $30) into the total cost of the phone.

-External speakers - I really wish these were louder. Annoying but I purchased Volume+ (for I think $1.99) and it seems to have helped the issue fairly well.

    * - I have the Verizon version which means I haven't gotten the 4.0.4 update as of yet (thanks big red). These issues may be resolved or at the very least addressed as best as possible by the OTA.

    The (Allegedly) Bad)

-The Camera - I was under the impression that this was going to be a terrible experience, but I have not noticed anything "terrible" about it, and the quick shutter click is a welcome change from older devices where you'd hit button, wait 5 seconds, and then get the device to record an image.

    The Good

-4G - just as fast as everyone said it would bejumping from ~1.5 mbs to ~7 mbs is a very nice change (especially when utilizing an app like HBOGo).

-Google Play - I love this user experience. Download books, music, movies (to buy or rent), games, apps, etc. either directly from the device or by browsing on your laptop (anything purchased via a normal browser is then automatically downloaded onto the device). Not something unique to the Nexus but I've been loving it so far. Additionally you can store up to 20,000 songs for free on google's cloud (songs purchased through play do not count towards this quota). So basically I can save 20,000 songs worth of my old CD's onto the cloud for free and unlimited music purchased through the play store. Then I can either play music from the cloud or save to my device for the ability to play when not connected (i.e. camping, etc.).

-ICS - By far the nicest, smoothest android experience I've had so far. The only downside is that because it is a Verizon device it is not truly vanilla android, which is what is holding up my 4.0.4 update. Oh well.

-Aesthetics - This is a GORGEOUS device. The screen is crisp, and the curved design is balanced. The only issues I have are that the extended battery throws off the balance slightly, and it can be a bit slippery if you're not careful.

I realize this is basically last year's nexus device (with the Galaxy S III comig out soon) but if you're looking for an increasingly cheaper option than the newest phone out there (with comparable specs to the HTC One and apparently the same processor {dual core} as the S III), this is a fine choice.
