Default internet service with no no tv and no home phone

Any ideas on the best way to get high-speed wireless internet when you don't have a home phone or a television? (Apart from stealing it from your neighbors.) I live in South Philly. Thanks.

I have Internet-only with Comcast and pay about $50/mo after fees and taxes. I think the base Internet plan is $42/mo or something like that. It's very fast and reliable. For wireless, just get a $40 Wi-Fi router.

Yep. Just sign up for comcast and get the internet package only. DSL is way to slow and FIOS is way to expensive but it is much faster apparently. Good luck.

You can go with Clear wireless. Or you can get a dry loop DSL.

I'd go for Clear in this situation. You'll get the best price since you don't want phone/cable.

I had Clear in South Philly. It was a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend it to my enemy. The technology behind broadband (Comcast) is supposed to run faster but the idiots over there have too many people (gamers) on the bandwidth and it slows down the speeds. Spend the money and go with Fios. It's the fastest and best.

Comcast just resells Clear, they have nothing to do with the tech.

I know that. I think you might misunderstood my post. I was talking about three different services:

    1. Clear
    2. Comcast broadband
    3. Fios

To the OP - more info on the subject is available here: http://www.philadelphiaspeaks.com/fo...th-philly.html

Oops, sorry. FIOS, Clear, and cable would all be classified as broadband under most definitions which is why I was confused.

Comcast bandwidth is pooled by neighborhood so speed can vary, if you have active gamers or file sharers in your hood could slow down at peak times. I've been lucky that in my area speed is always good.

How much does FIOS Internet-only cost? Last time I tried to find out, the sales line connected me to some guy in India that didn't know anything, totally turned me off to Verizon.

According to on my ebay listings we have customers in different parts of the country who have bought from us. A lot of consumers want to find something to their convenience. Look at your line items carefully. I won't mention what I observe on the other companies but if anyone gives us a call and signs up you will notice a difference in service.

I do not have a TV anymore or a home phone. Comcast pissed me off for the last time and my cell took the need for a home phone away. Actually i rarely use that anymore and just skype. May ditch that too.

I use clear. Have gotten reception all over philly. I live just north of washington. Not bad.

Will you answer this question? Why are you reselling 20 year-old DSL service and claiming it's the "latest internet technology", when it's clearly not?
