Anyone Know of Any Modems that are Compatible with Comcast Digital Voice?
I am sick of paying $7.00 per month to simply rent a modem that will permit me to use Comcast VoIP (Digital Voice).
While I used to own my own cable modems, once I added "digital voice" I had no option to purchase a modem. I had to pay the $3 rental fee. Well now it is $7 to rent the same modem.
So I am wondering if it is yet possible to purchase my own compatible modem so that I can stop paying Comcast an additional $7 to to have the privilege of paying for the VoIP phone system.
Does anyone know if you can now purchase a compatible modem? If so any recommendations would be very much appreciated?
There's a list of approved devices here: Cable Devices
Look at the D3 devices (DOCSIS 3), don't bother with the others. You also will have to click on each model to confirm it's an eMTA device, not just a cablemodem.
That's the easy part, seeing if a) Comcast policy allows you to buy one yourself, and more importantly b) you could find someone that understands all that at Comcast, will be the more challenging parts.
Whatever you do, don't listen to best buy. A-holes. I bought the one they recommended, and comcrap had no idea what it was. Ended up having to return it, have comcrap come out to my house instead of using the self-install, etc.
