Default home alarm: verizon vs. comcast

I'm confused. The company that provides my home alarm service says that security systems linked to Comcast's phone service are unreliable and he won't rig systems to Comcast. But I'm now paying Verizon too much for a line that just sits there only to serve the alarm. Are any of you linking your alarm systems through Comcast? Are you satisifed with the service? What alarm company do you use? Thanks.

Yes, we have Slomins hooked into our Comcast home phone line.

That said, Slomins has an "alarm guard" (or some such) feature which regularly checks for a dial tone. If more than a few minutes goes by without one, the alarm sounds. Needless to say, we were in for a rude awakening the first time Comcast decided to cut service in the middle of the night.

(Both times this happened Comcast told us it was for scheduled maintenance, which they decided to do in the middle of the night when it would be least inconvenient to customers. No explanation why they didn't inform customers in advance though, which you would think they could do if it truly was "scheduled.")

I have Comcrap hooked up to my ADT system. Clowns didn't wire for "interruption" (I believe that is the term?) when they hooked up my phone service. Basically, if someone breaks in and are savy enough..they can pick the phone off the hook and the call won't go through. I believe this is the case even if you have a backup cellguard. You need a qualified technician that is familiar with alarms and phone hookups. I learned about the oversight when I had an ADT technician over the home for one of their screwups. He said he could do it but would have to charge me hourly rates...not just the trip fee. He said Comcast would do it since they are liable for compromising the system. They came and fixed it but then I got a $40 dollar service call. I of course called and complained it was their screw up in the first place so I shouldn't have to pay and they took it off.

I installed Slomans with a cellular hook up. I pay and extra $7 a month I think, but I don't need a phone line.
