Also, if anyone is new to Android and wants a good place for info/tips/troubleshooting for their new EVO, get barcode scanner from the app store and scan this:

I want one, but for the last few months, my HTC Touch Pro has been giving me alot of problems, with text messaging, picture mail and my phone calls. The Evo looks nice, but I think I'll wait about a month before I purchase one.

    Same here.

Love the thing. Actually rock an ancient shadow. It never broke but I'd rather wait for the kinks on this new one.

I was hoping the 4g would be faster, but from what I hear it really isn't, here's a test in Philly, HSPA+ beat out 4g wimax in some places - 4G Networks Tested: WiMAX vs. HSPA+ : Intro (Phone Scoop)

Was waiting for the Apple and Evo to come out. Have listened to both sides on which is better and want to get an EVO, but cant!

They know they are going to sell, don't see why both Att and Sprint did not have truck loads of these before they were released...

I've had my Evo for about 2 weeks now. So far I like it a lot.

One complaint is looking up phone numbers. You can type out the persons name or number (like most smart phones) and all the contacts start coming up, but there is no space bar that I know of. So I type "Bob" and those letters bring up a lot of contacts. I have to then scroll down. Only takes a second, but a space bar would be nice.

keyboards on Android phones are among their worst features. that would drive me nuts.

also, I think the evo lasts five minutes before it needs recharging?

much as Apple annoys me, I literally spent 8 hours yesterday with my iPhone4, streaming music via bluetooth, checking email, and checking Twitter yet I was at 30-40% charge when I finally plugged it back in to re-sync. now THAT is battery life.

Juicedefender solves battery issues for most phones. Also the next Android OS should lengthen battery life as well.

I am on my EVO all day. Email, phone calls, text's etc... It goes from 8 am to 5ish one charge. I think that's a fair.

My Palm would be out by 1pm.

edit: I got an extended battery for the Palm and it would last all day easy. I do like the software better on the Palm than on Apple or Droid, the phone is just not as good.

i was considering switching my iphone for an EVO, but i am going to hold out until the Epic 4G comes out on Sprint.....the AT&T version is the Captivate.....Sprint's version has a front facing camera, Super AMOLED screen, full slide out keyboard, as well as touch screen with Swype which is really cool. I think the Epic is slightly better than the EVO.....

Right now, I think Sprint probably has the best plans and phones. Too bad their network is so-so. If the iPhone ever leaves AT&T, they're so boned.

I finally got my crappy HTC Touch swapped for a HTC Hero. I'm going to hold off from getting the Evo until I play with this one for a few months.

Meh, I can't stand Android. I'm hoping HP does something good with WebOS soon.

I played with an EVO last week. All in all a pretty cool device, but the dang thing was just too big.

Clearly, size is a preference thing....but for me, a device that big just doesn't fit with my lifestyle.

The Droid X is even bigger.

I know. I haven't played with one, but I saw the measurements and nearly choked.

It seems like these companies are trying to one up eachother with feature-bloat. next we're gonna see 5" screens.

When does a phone stop being a phone and become a tablet?

I've had the EVO for about a week, and I'm really happy with it. I agree that size is a personal preference, but for me this seems like the right size. I had a MOTO Droid previously (available for sale if anyone's interested) and it always seemed powerful but cramped. The EVO is perfect for browsing and video and feels good in your hand as a phone. It fits in my pocket just fine, so I don't see what's too big.
I'm a big fan of its touch screen responsiveness, call and speaker sound quality are great. Battery life could be the biggest problem, but I think I'll probably pick up a backup, or...
Has anyone ever tried one of the external batteries/chargers?

I was looking at switching carriers and Sprint is one of them but how is Sprint's network in Philly overall? I can basically get their Everything Data-with Any Mobile, Anytime and 450 anytime mins for $70 p/mo (excluding taxes). The discounted price is 59.49 but have to pay ten bucks for the premium data add-on which I'm not sure if it's avoidable? The EVO itself would cost 200 bucks after the instant and mail in rebates.
It sounds like not everybody is sold on the EVO despite the hype...what might be a better phone from a pragmatic vs flashy sense other than the Droid X which also has its detractors....?
