Let's create a list of cars that are rapped about and ownership of them will waive criminals of some responsibility for attacking you. I see luxury cars that are rapped about on just about every block of the city, so there are a lot of criminals that should be excused for their actions. How should they be expected to resist temptation and not assault and steal?!

How about the guy who got blasted this week at the Piazza? Was he a citizen driving around in a Ford Focus? Of course not. He was bad news driving in he Benzo.

It's exactly the same argument:

I don't entirely agree that you shouldn't be able to walk around in a sexy dress, but at the same time, there is something to be said about not making yourself a target and being aware of your surroundings. If someone was walking through, say, the rougher parts of West Philadelphia, with their legs showing and wearing high-heeled shoes and acting like a tourist, and happened to get sexually assualted, of course everyone would tell them that they had it coming. If it does, in fact, turn out that these people were followed all the way to Rosemont, they should have had enough situational awareness to realize they were being followed. It's going to be pretty obvious when you're being tailed that far unless there's some major team-work going on.

First off, it's not about making the perpetrators any less guilty. Those who did it are animals and should be punished accordingly.

But, at the same time, common sense dictates that you should, within reason, be aware of your surroundings and do what you can to mitigate risk. It's not blaming the victim, it's encouraging self preservation.

I'd appreciate it if in the future you didn't put words in my mouth that insinuated that I thought rape victims brought it on themselves, because not only is it completely offensive, it is NOT what is being said here (not to mention a straw man argument of the highest order).

Read again - the victims were targeted because they were Asian business owners. Not mercedes benz owners. It is assumed that asian business owners take their cash home at night and store it there, so people try to follow them home and rob them to get all of the cash. Had nothing to do with their car. The best "self preservation" they could have exercised would have been to

2) not be a business owner

Which would be their better option?

. . . when people post pictures of guns on the internet accompanied by threats and tough slogans, I KNOW I'd better watch my ass and shape up.

There's a world of hurt coming to us to don't recognize such forceful messages.
