    Default Petroleum Pipeline

There's a petroleum pipeline in the backyard of a house out near Glen Mills that I'm showing to buyers. I've googled petroleum pipelines and learned a bit about them. I found out from hearsay that this was was built in the 1950's, there's daily fly-overs of it and it runs sort of along Route 1 out to Lancaster.

Does anyone have any more specific info about this? Is it safe to have in your backyard? Anything these buyers need to know about it?

I'm not seeing a pipeline with the geography you describe.. there are several in that area, but they run NW/SE.

Perhaps you've already visited the pipeline map.. but here it is: https://www.npms.phmsa.dot.gov/

Once you've located the pipeline you're interested in, you can use the (i) tool to get information on the owner and materials transported.

Pipelines are safe, statistically. I'd be more wary of a natural gas pipeline than a crude pipeline. Assuming there's no well water on the property.

Thanks. We located this already. No well water on the property. I'm sort of looking for how this affects property usage--if any.

My guess is that it feeds the Buckeye Pipeline storage facility in Bethel Township (it's behind Booth's Corner. Start on Google Maps trace it from there.

Is this house in Concord Township or Thornbury? Both have a Glen Mills PO (as does part of Edgemont Twp, I believe).

FWIW, the most expensive homes in Bethel (700,000-1,000,000) are in a development that backs up to the Buckeye Property (granted, mostly tree covered).
