From the article, it seems like the perp turned himself in. In which case I would say it's a testament to peer pressure and the power of a community (including a digital one) that forced the young man to do the right thing. I am three steps removed from the victim (friend of a friend of a sibling), and even at that position I was bombarded with Facebook messages asking the man to turn himself in over the last few days.

I hope that Mr. McManus has a speedy recovery. Since the guy who turned himself in was an EMT, it is a darn shame that he didn't stop at the time of the crash and render aid.
