COURTHOUSE — A woman found floating face down in the Schuylkill River against a dock at Hines Rowing Center was identified as a 73-year-old Conshohocken woman.
According to Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman, Catherine Kelly, who lived on the 500 block of Spring Mill Avenue, drowned but circumstances surrounding her death are still being investigated. The Coroner said she had underlying medical problems but did not elaborate.
“There was no evidence of an injury,” Hofman said.
Kelly, who was discovered a half-mile from her home, was last seen about 11 p.m. Tuesday when she left her sister’s house to drive home after having dinner.
“When she didn’t show up for Mass (at St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church) Wednesday, the family went to police,” the Coroner said.
Family members identified the woman from photographs. Her car was found parked at her residence.
According to a Whitemarsh police report, a boater reported seeing a body floating in the middle of the river moving with the current at 11:19 a.m. about 1,200 feet west of the dock at 801 Washington St.
The victim was wearing a black top, black shorts and New Balance sneakers. Around her neck was a fine gold link chain with a Miraculous Medal, according to the report.
On Wednesday afternoon, the rowing center’s operations manager, Bob Smith, said when authorities recovered the body from the water he noted her hair was “snow white.”
Whitemarsh police Lt. Chris Ward said Lekelly’s family came to the Whitemarsh police station around 9 p.m. Wednesday to report her missing.
Crew teams from Bryn Mawr College and Philadelphia University use the boat facility’s docks as do Radnor, Lower Merion, Owen J. Roberts, Germantown Academy and Mount Saint Joseph Academy high schools.

Heard this morning that the family reported she suffered from narcolepsy, and may have been sleep-walking.
