Default Trap in the Suburbs! Flood knocks out only bridge in and out

This reminds me why its not always cool to live in the burbs:

    Apartment Residents Stranded By Floods

A privately-owned bridge into a North Wilmington apartment complex collapsed Friday, stranding hundreds of residents.

Fox 29 was tipped-off by a Facebook user about the bridge collapse after SkyFox flew over the Colony North Apartments complex.

According to information on ApartmentCities.com , Colony North Apartments has 311 units on 22 acres.

There were also reports of a natural gas leak, but personnel have cut off all gas lines into the complex.

New Castle County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Carpenter says the apartment complexes are off Lee Boulevard in Fox Point.

The bridge is the only access point to the complex.

Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Williams saoid the bridge is privately-owned and not maintained or inspected by the state.

It was one of my major concerns when I decided to move to the 'burbs.

Also, Wilmington is not a suburb.

I think it has less to do with being "in the suburbs" and more to do with "living in an apartment complex with only one bridge into it"

Might want to get more specific. RR makes plenty of stops in the city, too.

New road being built to stranded residents | delawareonline.com | The News Journal

Crews hired by Delmarva Power are building a temporary access road to residents in three Fox Point apartment complexes left stranded by a bridge collapse this morning.

Just before 1 p.m., crews started hauling in dirt and gravel to build a road on Pettinaro Co.-owned land behind the Paladin Club Condominiums.

Delmarva plans to install a temporary gas line to the Colony North, Las Casa and Summit Chase apartments. The main gas line was damaged when flood waters washed away a bridge on Colony Boulevard, leaving hundreds of residents without heat or hot water.
