It is encouraging to a long term resident such as myself to see the pride of ownership, the assumption of responsibility and possession as symbolized by the proliferation of traffic cones marking the owner's parking spot.
However, I do understand that some residents find the cones aesthetically challenging, so, I am proposing that we use the cones to celebrate not only our pride of ownership, but also the many holidays during the year.
Halloween should be easy since most of the newer cones are orange and can be stenciled with black witches, ghosts or a jack-o-lantern motif.
Christmas, of course, is right around the corner and while the longer term collectors certainly have the older red "danger" cones in their possession, novice collectors will have to keep their eyes peeled for the few red cones still in use. Red cones are certainly not a necessity as orange cones can be easily wrapped in foil or covered in decorative paper, festooned with a wreath or garlanded with holly to lend a festive atmosphere to our neighborhood. We are only limited by our imaginations.
Happy Holidays!
