Dear Friends,

We have a lot to celebrate. On June 11, 2009 the ordinance for outdoor seating was passed, allowing us to once again provide you with the enjoyment of alfresco dining. And on June 9, 2009 we received a very important call from our zoning lawyer relaying the message that the Zoning Board of Adjustments granted us our variance for the expansion of the Sidecar.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for showing us, time and again, how truly dedicated and supportive you are as clients, neighbors, and friends of the Sidecar. Without you, neither of these victories could have occurred and it humbles us to know how much heartfelt commitment went into this process. Your letters to city council, your emails and phone calls, your signed petitions, your appearances—on several occasions, and often for many hours—at neighborhood as well as zoning and council meetings: we are indebted to you for all of these, but even more for being a part of the fabric that makes the Sidecar a special place, a genuine community gathering place. This statement holds true: “A place for good folks.”

Ultimately, as you know, these triumphs are not just for this bar on this corner, but for a neighborhood that continues to grow and offer more amenities to its residents. We look forward to welcoming new businesses and hope that our joint efforts set the tone for future endeavors.

Again, we are so very grateful and still reeling from the amount of support we received. We hope to continue serving you well and fostering the neighborliness that has proved itself invaluable.

Re: Zoning - we got about 75% of what we asked for - without getting too far into it, no rooftop deck, no entertainment - but everything else, with provisos. Plus the sidewalk cafe; which you all know about by now.

Now it's just a matter of when...

I think the pressure the community brought to bear on elected officials in support of SideCar, including the PB threads, had something to do with the happy ending.

Please sign the petition to extend sidewalk seating throughout the neighborhood so we don't have to go through that again. It's available at the SOSNA office and at Beauty Shop Cafe, and thanks to Beauty Shop Cafe who has already collected over 130 signatures!

Back to Sidecar, is it going to close for renovations? If so, when and for how long?
