Default Do you walk around very early in the morning?

I usually walk to 30th street station from 22nd and christian over market, but it's usually mid day.

Do yiu think it's ok to do that say 6 or 7am on weekdays or weekends? I would think weekday would be less problematic.

Figured i'd ask here before i decided to do it.

Haven't done that route, but have frequently walked up the Schuylkill River Trail to JFK and then to 30th St. Station with no problems at that time.

I walk all over the neighborhood at all hours. Personally I've never had a problem. Granted I'm not a little dude, however at 6 or 7am I can't imagine much would go wrong. Usually the only people I see are the early early birds going to work.

I frequently drive that way around 7am, seems to be OK. Heading north should be cool.

For the past 4 years I have done a combination of walking and biking to work (34th and Spruce) from 22nd and Kimball, usually between the hours of 6 and 7am. This included every other weekend for most of that time (thankfully that changed since July). I never had a problem (knock on wood).

Agree with the other posters. Early in the morning is a very safe time around here. It's all dog-walkers and people in scrubs.

If I recall correctly the modus operandi of a relatively recent serial killer in our area was to grab young women jogging early in the morning who were wearing headphones. A lot of homeless shelters - or cafes as the city calls them sometimes - discharge their residents/customers at 6 am. Also, many losers who have been out all night drinking and drugging are usually milling around still at that hour, and often they are quite desperate for cash. It's a good time to get mugged. There are fewer people out, but some of the ones who are out have either been out all night, or just got let out and are looking for prey. Crackheads and others coming off binges sure as heck aren't sleeping. And heroin junkies always need a fix first thing. So be careful I say. Early morning is a great time to get mugged. Watch your ass.

I walk to 30th street station a little before 6 every weekday and it's totally safe. Just walk up 22nd and turn on Market. Stick to streets that are well lit, with relatively heavy traffic.

I drive that route every weekday and sometimes weekends at that time. Weekdays you're fine, weekends are a lot more deserted. I would probably wait to leave until it's light out: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Sunrise, sunset, dawn and dusk times for the whole year - Gaisma

You really aren't from around here, are you? Or are you making assumptions from behind your barred windows? The homeless who get out at 6 seem to be around city hall/markest east, waiting for the commuter dollar to come to work. And I can't even think of a specific time I've seen the junkies or crackheads around the area at that time of the morning besides maybe broad street further down towards washington or up at city hall.
