Default A new dawn for JULIAN ABELE PARK!

From the FB Page of Friends of Julian Abele Park:

FINALLY!! This picture may be of sunset, but it's a new dawn for our park! Construction is starting tomorrow, and when it's done we will have a whole new park, with all new trees, paved paths, a gorgeous entrance gate, shrubs and perennial beds. Our park will at last look like a park instead of a vacant lot!! Thanks to DCNR and the City of Philadelphia for the grant that's making this happen. Of course the park will be fenced off and inaccessible for about three months, but that's a small price for the improvements that we will enjoy!

It has been a long haul since that day many years ago when Anna Verna stopped by for the photo op when the land was deeded as a park!

"As this construction begins, movers and shakers in G-Ho can start to think about its next project- a legit dog run. After all, the myriad neighborhood dogs have to do their business somewhere, right?"

I had to chuckle and say awe... the day after the fence went up I saw two dogs at the same time walk up to the fence and look at their owners with the saddest look on their face.

I'm thrilled construction is purported to begin... WHEN it's finished i'll jump for joy.

WE DO need a dog park too!

    Default Farmers Market this afternoon!

The park is fenced off for construction, but we're still hosting the Farmers Market on Friday afternoons from 3-7 on the Carpenter St. sidewalk. Stop by this afternoon for fresh fruit and veggies, and all the usual delicious canned and baked goods.

Looks like the proposed park side cafe is DOA before it even got going. Walked by today and there's a "For Sale" sign up on the property. So instead of getting a parkside cafe, we'll end up with a park side generic new construction house with a stucco bay hanging out over the park.

No that's not what happened. The owner got married and moved out of town.

As construction of our newly-designed Park nears a close, the Friends of Julian Abele Park are soliciting community input.

If you haven't already* click here to complete a short survey and let us know your thoughts on the future of Julian Abele Park.

*The survey was originally announced about 2 weeks ago via our email list, Facebook and SOSNA, and will be open for a few more hours only - closing around midnight tonight. Results will be posted shortly thereafter at www.JulianAbelePark.org.

I know you guys weren't crazy about the service road in the back of the park, but it does look like the perfect width for food trucks. hint hint.
