So it seems. I went outside a couple of hours after the aforesaid robbery, and while nothing criminal happened, there were too many weirdos out. One guy—a chavvy white guy, btw—turns a corner and sidles up to me and says "WHAT'S UP" and then just stands there. I finished my nightly cigarette inside.

I can't imagine why warm weather brings the criminals and crazies out. When there's a warm spell like there was Monday, all I want to do is lie down in front of a fan.

There was an automated message on my home phone today about robberies in the area. The bad guys are removing AC units and entering through windows, entering through rear doors, etc. The woman who left the message said to lock your doors, secure your windows, and make sure your alarm system is working. But at the end of the message, the woman also said that if you see anyone in your backyard who does not belong there, shoot them in the face. We need to get rid of the bad guys one by one.

Did you listen through to the end? If you heard "I'm Ron Paul, and I approve this message," that would explain a lot.

    Ew.

The cops were out here last week because my neighbor called and reported a kid (around 14) trying to hop her fence into my backyard in the middle of the day. They didn't mention a pattern but my neighbor did say that there has been a rash of GPS/other items stolen from cars in the area.

Does anyone know what the big commotion was about on Sunday night (around midnight so maybe Monday morning of Memorial Day) on 16th street just South of Catharine. I saw a ton of police, lots of "get down!" yelling, and flashlights in backyards.

Anyone know what was going on yesterday morning (around 7:30 am) on Kater St. near 20th? I saw two police cars parked and the road taped off.

Wait....there was a crime at 20th and Kater? I thought that was safest corner in the city, and only the introduction of a neighborhood cafe and restaurant would turn that corner into Camden?? Maybe someone tried to put up a cafe in the middle of the night.

Sorry...don't mean to make light of any crime that may have occurred there....just couldn't resist the irony.

I heard there was a daylight break-in on the 2100 block of bainbridge. Don't know if that's accurate. And don't know if it's related to this 7 a.m. incident

There was one on the 2200 block of Fitzwater, but you probably know about that one already.

    Tree-trimming.

Side note: sadly, I don't think the Scalones could care less whether they've kept the block from getting safer. If your interaction with the rest of the neighborhood is limited to whenever your garage door is open (or when you're busy lying to your neighbors so they can sign your bogus petition), truly important issues like that are among the least of your concerns.

Philly cop charged with selling heroin

"Jonathan Garcia, who has been on the force for three years and is stationed in South Philly's 17th district, was charged with four counts of distribution of heroin and two counts of carrying a firearm during drug trafficking."

And in other news, just saw cops pull car over at notorious drug corner and then the car took off. Lol.

I saw that, too: they turned up 20th with about five squad cars in their wake. It's not often that they speed off toward CC, so I think everyone notices when they do.

Also, I remember Officer Garcia from a couple of incidents. He seemed like an especially nice guy.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my scooter was stolen from the front of my home. It was bolted to the ground with a giant chain and the scooter itself is over 250 lbs. Just an FYI - keep an eye on your scooters people!

Wow. How do you reckon it was taken - was the chain likely cut, or did the bolt get pried up? What's your vicinity? Quiet street?

I was on my way in last night, when I overheard two people coming out of the Twi-Lite as it was closing. One said to the other, "Be careful walking! There's an attacker loose in our neighborhood!" Then she specified that it's someone who rides up on to the sidewalk on a bike, then grabs people and chokes them.

The crime maps don't bear this out, but I know they don't reflect everything. Does anyone know what the hell she was talking about?

Sounds like the MO of the mugger over in Queen Village to me.
