Happy Friday, or, as I will now be calling it, "SWCC corn on the cob night".

Actually with the chance of rain and my schedule today, I think I'm going to have to postpone a week or so. Maybe we can pick tunes and I could learn some and find some other folks to play.

I suspect the rain has just been and gone. But that sounds like a plan. Call me and we'll set a time to kick some stuff around.

I'll say. I'm hoping the Bielers Beilers are still there and not too terribly waterlogged. If/when this calms down, I'm venturing over.

I got there a little before 3 and they were already open for business. Got my cantalope, corn, tomatoes and peaches just in time to walk home in the less torrential part of the latest downpour. BTW, the small lot adjacent to the park is being excavated right now for some purpose.

It's the Beilers, folks! Only "the English" would spell the name as Bielers!

I've never heard it pronounced, so I assumed the name was BEE-lers. I'll go correct my post.

And yes, they are there in the rain with their wonderful things.

And, Coco, as my kid would have said at this point, "I am not either Stetle!"

Residential construction. Park folks have advised the backhoe operator that he's taking his life in his hands if he gets too close to our trees.

its german - so it would be "ei" not ie. so it would be pronounced b (AI)ler

lived though this one myself for many years people didn't pronounce my name correctly.

this neighborhood is getting as bad as the upperwest side of ny!

they were shooting "you've got mail" one day in the park and there were tons of real looking fake flowers and this big guy sitting in the middle. I asked him what he was doing and h grunted - making a movie... i said i hoped they would put the park back as they found it.

Apparently i wasn't the only one because they referenced the upper west sider's protectiveness in the movie ( very funny). actually the studio gave a hefty grant to the park that kept it tended better than it would of been for some time.

So lets get someone to shoot a movie... then we can get more money...

That's funny because I assumed I had the spelling wrong (Beiler) when I heard the farmer pronounces it like "B-EYE-LER" not "B-AY-LER."

Thank you for the German lesson. As it happens I grew up with German-speaking people.

If I have never heard the name pronounced, I have no way of guessing how it is spelled. If it's pronounced BEE-ler, it could be spelled Bieler or Biehler.

Now, how about we let beigones be beigones.

Better yet, if it were a Pennsylvania Dutch speaker it is possible (depending on the flavor of Dutch spoken) that Beiler could indeed be pronounced BAYler.

My son's first complete sentence was in Pennsylvania Dutch and it included the vowel shift -- thus, "nay" for "nein." The sentence (quasi-phonetically) was

"Nay nay ee vill net bett gaye," a variant on the German

"Nein, nein, ich will nicht zu Bett gehen", or

No, no, I don't want to go to bed!"

Now I can't wait 'til the market on Friday not only to stock up on more goodies but also to ask Jacob and Emma to tell us all how to correctly spell and pronounce their last name.
