    Buy your own chalkboard.

    Just change the spelling already.

At least with Dickinson, which half the people around here seems to pronounce as "Dickerson", the post office took it upon themselves to change the spelling to conform with local illiteracy.

Seriously, I used to get those cards from the mailman that said "you have a package at the post office, come pick it up Noon-4pm at the post office - 10th & Dickerson" It took me two days to find it.

I also had the opposite happen recently. I was showing a neighbor a notice about an upcoming block party. She said, "now wait a minute, where the heck is Dickinson St?"

"You're on it. (points to sign) The street you live on."

"is that how you spell it? I lived here my whole life and never knew that."

Funny, they do the same in England, where the town called Greenwich (pronounched "GREN-ich") was founded in the 6th century AD.

I wonder which pronunciation is correct...

That's only in certain regional accents.

Maybe if they're a stereotypical North Country farmer on TV, but otherwise, no (suddenly, all I can think of is Graham Chapman...)
