How stupid is she. I mean I am NEVER over that way, the one and only time was when i went to the meeting and i went there (did not even try to vote since i'm in SWCC) because i could not let someone being this obviously discriminated against stand alone, a lot of others agreed.
But now that THIS is out, at my earliest opportunity I will be walking over that way, even in the cold to get a cup of hot chocolate or something. My point is that this will only make people WANT to go to the coffee shop so thanks CCB! You strike again!

I do not live near the shop but went out of my way this weekend to support it. Had coffee and a brownie and both items were very good. It is a great addition to the neighborhood. My 2 cents.
Nice to see the City is still providing free legal services to racist hatemongers so they can attempt to shut down tax paying businesses as part of their racist, hatemonger campaign endorsed by Darryl Clarke and Kenyatta Johnson. That makes sense.

I know many of the accusations are eye rollers, but I imagine the one of having more tenants than allowed by permit would be an actual violation. Is it a serious charge or just an unfounded accusation?
Jake, the building is zoned for 4 apartments + 1 commercial space. That is exactly what is there. All work on the building was completed with proper permitting. We have pull stations, emergency lighting, etc. We also obviously have rental licenses for all the apartments. If we were trying to do things illegaly we would not have spent 12 months going through zoning to approve a coffee shop!
On a seperate note, I believe Theresa is referring to the number of people that came to our opening party when referring to number of tenants (more than 30) as described on a flyer my office produced. She was using that flyer as evidence that our coffee shop is serving more than 30 patrons at a time (i wish we weren't complying with this....but we obviously are.)
And not to worry, the building has been inspected every week since the coffee shop opened. According to LI and Health Department....our coffee is safe!
I know where I'm hangin out this winter. Gotta show these bigots that they ain't gonna win.
The court allowed her to file without paying court costs because she has no money. This entire process costs her nothing and costs me thousands each month.
It's strange that she was able to come up with $8,000 to bid on a property at Sheriff Sale a few months back seeing as she has no money.
I hope the gentrification process speeds up. This is getting ridiculous.
I was at the ZBA meeting and had to keep from laughing out loud when these arguments were made. They are basically saying that a commercial corridor (Point Breeze Ave.) should not have commerce because the traffic associated with commerce will impede the transit of emergency vehicles. By that logic, we should not have residential or any other type of use near there either, since all uses today create automobile traffic. Their ideal would be an empty street with tumbleweeds rolling down it, all clear for that fire truck or ambulance.
Ofie, you know that's not free legal services so please don't say it is. Not that I'm saying she qualifies (or doesn't qualify) for the filing fee waiver for indigents, but that's something completely different. By confusing the two, it only fuels those who think that public defenders should not be adequately funded, or funded at all. And the tragedy is that the public defenders are already horribly underfunded.
Here's the process that I envision.
-The young couple with 6 months left on their CC lease who buys a 3 bedroom 1 bath house on it's last legs and rehabs it at night and weekends getting it in shape enough to move into.
-The landlord who decides it's time to cash out and does some shoddy rehab work to up the price.
-The homeowner who simply decides to sell and the property is purchased by someone who with construction loan in hand is going to do the full gut reno.
Once the bars come down, the ADT stickers go up followed by window boxes, trees and dogs. Sounds dreadful doesn't it.
I see the tipping point being driven by individual homes/homeowners not by larger developments that tend to draw the most flack.
The battle for Point Breeze will be won house to house.
He didn't say it was free legal services. He said the court allows her to do this without paying costs. She's IFP - in forma pauperis - and that's exactly what it means. She doesn't pay court costs. This has been approved/allowed by the court. It costs Ori money because he has to fight it with his attorney. Ori didn't say she gets free legal services. To be candid, if that rubbish was drafted by an attorney performing free legal services, that attorney should be disbarred for being a f'(*ing moron.
Bootsywhatever said the city was providing free legal services, Chana asked how Bootsy knew, and Ofie responded "Its Free" Thus, reading it through, one would think that Ofie confirmed that she was getting free legal services from the government, which she is not. Free legal services provided by the government (to criminal defendants and, in some cases, to those involved in family law matters) get a a bad enough rap as it is; it doesn't need to fend off erroneous accusations as well.
It sounds like there's some dispute over the precise meaning of "legal services." You're exactly right about the plight of public defenders, but I for one didn't read Feibush's comment as referring to those kinds of services (but rather to the free processing of her frivolous, incoherent documents).
