    Default 1601 News?

Anyone have any updates on 1601. They were supposed to be opening around Labor Day. I walked by it the other day and it didn't seem like it was about to open.

    A refresher if you will.

More Details Emerge on What’s Going Into the Former 1601 Space -- Grub Street Philadelphia

Today comes word that former South Philadelphia Taproom GM Evan Clancy and fellow Kite & Key barman Scott Pawlicky are spearheading Fountain Porter, “an old-school, owner-run corner bar” that will open in the former 1601 space sometime after Labor day.
"No one wanted to be mayor of Philadelphia. It was a thankless job, which for the first 56 years offered an annual salary of zero. In 1745, two men turned down the position and instead accepted large fines. In 1747, Anthony Morris fled to Bucks County to hide and thus avoid notification of his election. After Morris’s disappearance, a new election was held, and William Atwood was re-elected."

They're not too far way. They're presenting to EPX's zoning meeting on October 24th to request amendments to the original PLCB conditional licenese (extending hours from 1AM to 2AM, re-allocation of the seating requirements). I believe they are also presenting to Passyunk Square for the same reason on October 9th. They could open before the agreements are modified under the original restrictions.

Went last night. Nice atmosphere, great beer list. Big step up from 1601.

Went last night for a couple of drinks with a few friends. I must say I liked it. It looks nice, had a good beer list and the biggest change from the old joint, good bartenders. It does look though like this is very much a bar, and not so much a place to go eat, which I am fine with. I think it will do well.
