My guess is the shooter heard Point Breeze might be renamed, why use bees renaned the point breeze, eyes gotz meyes gatz! Can't wait for the march on Sat against renaming Point Breeze, nothing else to worry about , nothing going on keep moving folks nothing to see, the red stains on the ground are from the annual tomato fights we have!
I am closing on a house right around the corner. I was told that 19th was alright to walk down, but two shootings during the day in a month makes me rethink the route. Any advice route-wise on how to get into CC?
It's disturbing you have to rethink your route into the city. You don't live in Mogadishu. I don't know the safest way to exit PB. But you have my blessing to go whatever route you think best and to shoot anyone who looks criminal. Use your judgment. Good luck trying to settle that land. Be safe. If you succeed, maybe we'll create a new holiday for you.

You won't be able to avoid it.
I would go get some FOX 3.5 pepper spray and just carry it on you. Buy several cans so you can use one to practice., print out a little paper target put it 8 to 10 feet away from you, and then practice hitting the bullsye quickly. (Wear glasses or goggles... you do not want this stuff on you) Do this outdoors. It's the magic of vegetables, in a can.
It's 3.5% OC so if you can get it into an eyeball it causes instantaneous blindness. Get it on the face and the eyes snap shut within 4 seconds and your target will start screaming (3.5% spray is absolutely effing painful, it feels like a flame is on your face). You do not need a license or a permit to carry pepper spray. You can order it online and have it delivered to your home.
If you go for a gel spray instead you can hit more targets than with the water-based, but you need to "zig zag" the gel across the person's face to force them to instinctively lift their fingers up to tug at the gel, which then starts the fun and they start screaming.
Learn to get comfortable carrying spray with you. It's fall right now... so hoodies make it easy to carry the spray around with you unlike summer.
I'd start off with that, and if you feel it's necessary, consider switching to concealed-carry if you think it's necessary. If you wish to switch, you will need to get a Pennsylvania LTCF in order to carry a firearm in Philadelphia.
The latest shooting happened indoors and may have been a domestic event of some sort.

Ugg. It sucks that we have to talk about this, but it's the nature of living in the city, and especially in Point Breeze. First off, assuming you're the typical Philadelphia Speaks poster, you're probably not wrapped up in the streets and are therefore not going to get in a gun battle with a warring drug ring. Obviously, it still affects us and we need to plan for these situations, but you're much more likely to be the victim of someone holding you up for your wallet than a drive-by.
The best way to stay safe is to remove the threat. You're going to be two blocks away from the 22nd Street bike lane, which will take you right into Center City. It's going to be safer to ride your bike in the street where you can be seen and will cover ground much quicker. Would you consider biking to work rather than walking?
I am definitely going to bike on the weekends, but it may be difficult to bike to work because I have to wear a suit and carry stuff to and from work. I'm sure there is a way around this, I just need to ask around.
Totally getting pepper spray! Thanks for the info. That was beyond expectation. I understand it is hard to avoid crime in any city, but I don't want to be naive. I was mugged in Baltimore in front of several people in the business section of the city, so I know how quickly and easily it can happen.
Thanks for the tips!
If you don't mind sharing, what cross streets do you live at?
woops - posted this to the wrong thread.

#1 I'm not white!
#2 How do you know I was imitating a black person? I have no idea if the shooter was black or white I haven't seen a description yet. Are you assuming that all shooters are black? I have heard white thugs and black thugs talk as referenced and also have seen them spell as referenced. The fact that you automatically assumed I was white and more importantly automatically assumed I was talking like a "black" person shows how close minded you are. You dumb terd!
Being a Point Breeze resident that lives and enjoys the community here, your ignorant stereotypes of my African-American neighbors does not even come close to those who abhor the violence and have been working for years to try to make systemic change against violence in this community. You have naive and undeveloped notions of what this community is and do not speak for myself, other residents of Point Breeze, or the Philadelphia Speaks community at large.
