So the bike ran the red light? I'm confused. Either way the car should have stopped and i hope they get the maximum penalty for not stopping.

Did the old city taxi go to follow the suv and get info? Or did they just leave, which if they did that would be pretty ****ty too.

The reporter mentions that the cyclist ran the red light. Where's Stu Bykofsky and his outrage?!

Wow...just..wow. That's why I have an old iPhone filming every ride I take on my bike.

Granted, the guy on the bike ran the light, didn't have sufficient lighting on his bike for riding at night, (and had less than optimal traction for breaking because of the rain) but that person in the car KNEW he/she ran over someone or something, they HAD to. I can't believe they left that person like that.

I believe the taxi tried to go after the SUV, and when they couldn't get them, they came back to the person who was hit, and called 911....

People are such fame whores these days it doesn't surprise me at all that he or she would turn it over to the local press rather than the group that can actually do something about this...like make an arrest!

    Fame?

Of course they should have gone to the coppers first, but I can imagine someone thinking that if fox aired the footage there's a greater chance of a large number of people would see the video and someone might recognize the owner of the vehicle. There are lots of crimes Coppers put on the back burner unless they are a little higher-profile somehow. Whoever gave the video to Fox just made the crime a little more high profile.

the problem is, if the person driving had a few beers he will go to jail, even though the biker was at fault 100%. wonder if they tested the biker for DUI. I hope he recovers and learns his lesson

Fault or not, they left another human being squashed on the street. As such they should be charged with hit and run/leaving the scene. Which if I'm not mistaken carries a decent penalty.

.08 its really hard to ride a bike??? The SUV did not hit the bike, the bike ran the light & hit the car. It's a real shame, but who rides a bike in the rain & fog at 3 am. It seems like people lost all common sense. I'm sure they will turn themselves in once they lawyer up.

    Two morons
    1. Most of all the suv for not stopping. You just do not leave someone in that condition after hitting them, at the very least he should have stopped and called for assistance then he could have gotten the dopey bikers info and sued the idiot for causing damage to his suv.

    2. The dopey biker. Typical biker who thinks he has the right of way no matter what! Countless bikers run stop signs and traffic lights like they don't exist. Hey idiot bikers obey the laws! Bunch of morons!

Until last year, it was actually more prudent for a drunk driver to flee the scene and get busted later, rather than stay at the scene and get busted for a fatal DUI. A fatal hit and run was only a one year minimum sentence, whereas a fatal dui was 3 years minimum. Fortunately, I believe this law has been resolved now.

The guy on the bike was clearly in the wrong and the person in the SUV should have stopped. Drivers needs to understand that the Victim is part of the blame too when they get hit so it's no need to hit and run.
