Not even a newfangled term like "LoMo" can make Broad & Snyder sound classy.

It is really an awful place to hold a flea market, it doesn't work. Too many bums and panhandlers hang around the McDonalds and whatnot on that corner. Why not at least use South Philly high's ENORMOUS parking lot?

Wow! This is quite the opposite view from those who have spaces at the event. Most of our participants anre repeat vendors and all of them love the fact that they draw so many shoppers from the pedestrians and auto traffic on Broad St. Hosting the event in the parking lot would make it much less visible from the street. It most definitely works. The mangers of Starbucks, the banks, the restaurants and the shops in that area would disagree with your assessment of the average customers they draw to this area.

By the way, six years ago the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association was started to serve an area of South Philaelphia that had no such group to organize the many neighborhood development projects which we have benefitted from lately. If you lower yourself to visit the market take a tour of the amazing orchard that LoMo has developed on the northeast corner of the South Philadelphia High's parking lot and the lush vegetable garden in the southeast corner. The produce from these projects is sold at the farmer's market on Tuesdays. Add to this the tree plantings, clean-ups, liaison work with the local school, Town Watch work and general communitee outreach and the benefits of having such a group far outweighs the pain it causes you to hear the "newfangled" LoMo moniker.
