Pretty interesting look at why Philadelphia has such a crime disorder. F'n organ bags.
It's two years old but it's new to me.

Wow! Thanks for posting that! It was a really interesting look at crime in Philadlephia. I looked up the show and there were only three made- Johannesburg, Lagos (Nigeria) and Philly. I wonder if it ever aired on American T.V.?
I thought it was the title of a porno satire at first...
Outstanding. Thanks for that. I'm going to forward this along to others.
Don't think it did, but those videos have been seen in Kensington and Fishtown already (Kensington is where much of it was filmed, I recognize half the blocks). Two of the plain-clothes guys covered in the doco I've seen before in the flesh.
I think this has been posted before to p-speaks but well over a year ago. Still, the situation on the ground hasn't changed much. What has changed and where there will be a lot of improvement is the captain of the 24th District was booted and Capt. Vogt, who has a better track record at getting results, is in command now.
As you can see, PSA-2 and PSA-1 cover the heart of the heroin corridor. 26th District PSA-1 and PSA-2 also cover a good chunk of it and crime stats are improving in the 26th. 25th District also covers the rest of the drug dens west of where the 24th District leaves off.
The eastern end of 24th District PSA-2 is where the new civic started up (Somerset Neighbors for Better Living). Homeowners there want to take back their area east of the EL.
I think we were discussing the videos a year ago because Rivera got indicted. He got life earlier this year, btw.
Yup: Drug kingpin gets life in prison
Not surprising that he would eventually get convicted what with him being publicly high on PCP and talking to the BBC... Not quite hallmarks of a very shrewd drug kingpin. What is surprising is that despite such sloppiness on his part it took so long to arrest him on charges that would stick.
Does anyone know what happened to the animals in his "petting zoo?"

This is epic, puts a whole different perspective on the neighborhoods, crime, and the grinding difficulty of policing these tough stretches. This makes neighborhoods that I lived in and thought were 'tough' look like Rittenhouse. I have all the more respect for these officers and the way they (mostly) restrain themselves after the junk spewed at them day after day.
It's a sad place where some of these people have grown up only knowing the street life and hate. May we not become so comfortable that forget the crime and violence that wrecks its havok on this city, and that we work to reform these people and situations that need to be redeemed.
Red said the animals were raised for slaughter not for petting. Although most of this was filmed in North Philadelphia there are many parts of South Philadelphia with this type of culture. Not seeing anything, and the don't snitch policy remains in effect. It remains unchanged as many of the adults raise children to in still the same mind set as they were bought up. I would hate cops too if they took my friends and family away when growing up. Only the national guard can help parts of PSA2 in the 17th.

Just saw this article regarding a shooting vicitim being charged with making a false report after refusing to tell police who shot him. The guy got shot 9 times and refused to identify who the perpetrator was, even though he knew. Pretty crazy mentality that permeates, unfortunately it will take more than charging people with hindering apprehension to remove this whole 'stop snitching' culture, given that even someone who had 9 bullets pumped into him refused to speak. However, on the upside, since this guy was a thug with drugs and guns in his car, these new charges present an additional opportunity to get these thugs off our streets.
I think I'm a little bit gay for Louis Theroux.
