It wouldn't be terrribly abnormal. The drainage WOULD have to be worked up, but its not outside the realm of reality. I like Tsarstruck's idea for smaller streets anyways.

My overall point is that we're making such a big deal about crosswalks, we should think about street design overall and use the opporutnity to come up with potentially better alternativs, that could be cheaper in the long run.

You are thinking with your practical hat. Now take that off and put on your civil lawsuit hat.

It's stupid they're wasting so much money on these stupid handicap ramps when the handicap don't even use them. The handicapped use the streets to get around in their wheelchairs and will continue to do so even when they've repaved all of the ramps. This money would be better spent on schools.

And its going to stay that way until they repave the street to balance it all out(which means the street level will be raised). The ADA rules are the ADA rules.

In some cases, the curb cuts are less that an inche lower than the actual curb. So they are going to repave the streets to almot normal curb height?

Can you explain why they are only doing the numbered streets along Oregon and not the side streets? Don't those have to be ADA compliant also?

ITs such a mess, that I don't even know where to begin. But to answer the curb hight one, yeah that is the case. They had to follow the guide lines of the new ADA rule that dictates the slope of the ramps, this is why some are higher and others are lower then the curb. Repaving should fix this(As most of the street is asphalt which can be adjusted to make sure it works with the curbs and drainage correctly.).

Why the number streets only? I can only guess, but I think they are repaving the numbers streets this summer. This is why the small side streets are getting skipped(For now).

Like I said, its a mess that, like the drinking age, they can not do anything about. The other mess? The street signs issue that keeps changing before they can even finish putting the new signs up.

They've just completed the same work near the Amtrak station in Wilmington, Delaware. The edges of the ramps were perfectly flush with the asphalt and no filler was needed. And this is Wilmington we're talking about.
