Default Here's a good one: What's the quickest route to West Chester?

Anyone regularly make the trip to/from West Chester? I'm considering a position there but when I lived in Jersey and had to travel to West Chester, it was a nightmare. Avoiding 322 and 202 would be ideal. I'm thinking the best (easiest) might be taking 676 to City Ave and then taking West Chester Pike all the way in. (I imagine taking Market all the way out to Rt. 3 would be a nightmare.) Any thoughts? Thanks!

Probably for a while but eventually, I'll probably need to be in the rush hours.

Chestnut - Walnut to Rte. 3 is pretty much the same stop and go as at least half of the Rte. 3 section. Not sure what advantage you get from taking City Line as opposed to just Walnut-Chestnut going the direct route. Outside of peak rush hour catching 202 from 76 by Villa nova is actually the fastest, sorry to say.

No way.

Best option - From SPhilly: 95S - 322W - Rt1 - 202. I did it weekly for a good year from SPhilly. Im also up/down 202, 76, Rt3 etc all the time...so Im familiar with traffic trends.

I've never done the drive from here before. Walnut and Market will both get me to "the West Chester Pike part" of Rt. 3, right? Do you think one is faster than the other? Thanks again for your help!

I'm thinking an hour-long commute might be worth it based on the money... But I imagine in rush hour, this could take more like 90 minutes?! Oy.

Really?! Because 322/202 are the absolute worst! How long did the commute take you? And did you change jobs because of it? Haha.

Malloy is right I think - especially anytime close to rush hour. Even though it sort of zig-zags.

This is not even an option. It can take 30min to get from SPhila to Upper Darby during rush hour. It can take you 30min to go from Upper Darby to Broomall on Rt3 during rush hour. Broomall to WC, another 30min.

An ex gf lived there. My office is currently in Aston, just off 322. When I lived in SPhilly, I would get to Aston off 322 without hitting my brakes every day I drove in. Now, from EF, I get snagged on 76 during rush hour...so I never go in during rush hour

In the AM, Ive found that the 95-322-Rt1 ride isn't bad at all. I think thats the reverse commute option.

ps. I would have to double my income to sit in traffic 1.5 hours each way....and I LIKE driving. 3 hrs a day to commute is really miserable.

Yeah don't think because it says "Rte. 30" on the map that it means anything other than stop lights and stop and go.

Malloy, thank you so much for your expertise! I want to make sure I'm understanding you completely so forgive me for asking you to repeat yourself.

If I'm understanding you correctly, probably the fastest/easiest route (regardless of the time of day) is I-95 to 322 then to Rt. 1 and back on 322/202?

To get home, taking 202 to the Schuylkill is probably no good? I should just reverse the way I took to get in?

From your experience, how long do you think this commute will take on a good day? And how about on a bad day?

Thank you again for taking so much time to answer my selfish questions!

My vote:

SPhil to WC - 95S > 322W > RT1S > 202N
WC to SPhil - 202S > Rt1N > 322E > 95N

Any way you slice it, SPhila to WC and back during rush hour is no fun BUT I THINK you will be generally doing the reverse commute when taking my route.

Taking the local streets will take 2x as long as any highway option.

Taking 676 > 76W > 202E will REALLY suck. I used to commute from SPhila to Lansdale every few days, and the worst part of the commute was getting from SPhila to 476. I think some people spend 1 hour driving from CC or SPhila to KOP...which is an easy 20min closer than WC.

One way I used to take sometimes to get home to avoid 322 was to actually go through Delaware and Im drawing a blank on the road name.

It was 202 S past route 1 and then make a left about 5 mins once you cross into Delaware. Its a major road and then take that down to 95N.

I agree.

Heck when I go to places like Avondale I go via Wilmington to avoid the local traffic on 1 and 322.

I drove that route in the middle of the night a couple times and it was damn quick but anywhere near rush hour, the section between Philadelphia and 475 is very congested in both directions. Going south on 95 you are going against the commute and its not as congested the way you are headed both directions. Malloy's right.

Malloy has it right. I live very close to West Chester and drive 202 every day. My husband uses 322 to get to his shop in Aston.

The ride home will be the PITA as 322 backs up to 95.

I would drive it once or twice before accepting the position, unless you're willing to move closer to the job.
