Default Phillyspeaks turning into a spamfest

Ok, I admit I felt bad reading about the family without health insurance. And, I decided not to report the website that was offering music lessons to at-risk youth, despite the poster being an epic douchebag hitting every forum. But, a day later, we have Wander73 posting to forum after forum about his ghetto tax service.

Will ANY effort be made by the mods to curtail this? Should I just go and get these sites nuked as if they were selling counterfeit iPads?

Listen, spam's a big problem. But the worst lately isn't Russian or Chinese bot spam, but rather the homegrown spammers. You wanna see a great site deteriorate real fast? Keep allowing this to happen.

Moderators can't do anything about this, only Admins can. Send Malloy a PM.

I would have love for you to report Kickstarter..lol

The best way to curtail spam is to have every person who signs up to be approved first. It wouldn't stop human spam, who really should know better on how to promote things they want to promote, but it would stop the bots.

Why didn't you send me a PM on this? I address every single reported post that comes over every morning. Last week has been extra busy for me, and Wil is on vacation. Still though, I addressed every reported post that came over.

Sorry, but it's been bugging me for a while, not just this. I've seen too many good sites go to sh!t because there was no spam control. My normal method of dealing with spam is to get the advertised site nuked.

Wouldn't there be a way, for instance, to block new users from embedded URLs (especially in their sigs) until reaching a certain posting threshold, or after a certain amount of time since sign up?

I reported the 'non-profit' lady from NoLibs who is spamming with "sink or swim" nonsense several times, yet all of her posts are still up. She should be banned and sent back to hades with an automatic drip coffee maker stuck up her bum to let her know how it's done.

I find things like the wander73 thread which went on for pages and pages easy enough to ignore. I do think there should be a one forum rule for most things including the useful advertisements.

To lower traditional spam disallow signatures for users with under 100 posts. Maybe have a few day waiting period before account is activated.

Just disable hyperlinks in the signature
