    Default Mako's closing?!?!

    Rumors are starting to swirl that Mako's is closing as of tonight or tomorrow night?! Anyone hear anything?! I'm not going to waste an evening of my life there just to check on a rumor.

    A friend of mine told me the same thing. Pretty sure it's true.

    I'm wondering if it is from too many violations or poor business-or both. Surely they could find a buyer for that place, although the rent is astronomical and the landlord is supposedly less than desirable.

    From what I've heard their time ran out (lease) and wasn't renewed ... but, again - from what I've heard, this isn't the end of Mako's ... just the end of Mako's at 3/South location. More soon....

    Pffft. I'd love to see any district that would let the makos name live past a move. And the landlord is a nitwit. That building is such a mess. It took them 20 years to get steps to the basement! Id love any inside dirt. Norm needs a home, and if he moves from makos to one of my bars? There's gonna a be a dead bum on south street! Hahahaha

    Makos was more fun when it was at Front & Chestnut.

    Since they're doing a clean trade, no one can really fight it.

    One problem- every single bar has it out for them.

    I was told some interesting stuff tonight from the local pd. Their next door neighbor will destroy them of they even think of doing 1/100 of what they're used to doing.

    What do you mean by clean trade?

    If they try to do a liquor license transfer to Mako's owners, well, everyone within 500 ft. of The Blarney can fight it.

    95% of the time on south street, the landlord technically owns the right to grab the liquor license since that's what makes the building worth the lease. That said, the owners of makos are done with that license that is filled with court hearings and violations. They'll now walk over to a pretty clear blarney license. All they have to do is file paperwork with the state to change partners in the corporation, and no one can fight it.

    I'm already told that TLA was already well aware of this, and will not be putting up with anything. Additionally, their new next door neightor is the number one phone caller to anything too loud on south street. They're not going to last long if they keep doing what they do.

    I have become such a PLCB nerd since dealing with OC crap, so this is all based on dealing with them and related entities.

    - Mako's license at 301 South Street is currently not valid. Not sure how long they've been operating this way, but it doesn't matter now for the operation of Mako's.

    - The liquor license and the actual property are considered separate by the state.

    - If the former business owners of Mako's apply for a liquor license transfer to them from the one residing at Blarney's address, Mako's owners' record follows them. Nearby business and resident neighbors can protest based on their record, and have strong grounds. They have plenty of serious violations against them.

    - Judgments are made, appeals happen and no outcome is guaranteed, of course. But it's been my impression that the PLCB and LCE have been pretty fed up lately.
