Default Why do people put blue light bulbs in their outdoor lights?

In Philadelphia, I noticed that alot of people put blue bulbs in their outdoor post lights and porch lights. Does it mean something special? They don't give off much light. I can't figure it out, and there is nothing on the net about it.

It's called project Blue Light. It's in rememberance of fallen police officers. It began a long time ago but people started it up again a couple of years ago when we had many officers killed in the line of duty.

Blue lights are for transvestites. Oh wait, that's Amsterdam.

It's for cops but it's also a sign that the area supports police and is therefore safer.

You're not going to see blue lights in the hood for example.
I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.

Yes you will. But they'll be flashing in unison with red lights on a white car with guys wearing guns and badges.

Sure you will. Those boxes mounted to the telephone poles with the pretty flashing blue light.

Nothing against our Men in Blue but, those blue porchlights are plain tacky.
Pitiful for illumination, I'm sure the pizza delivery man couldn't see to count the right change at my door.
If anything, they should be put "on" for something like a week, to proclaim their solidarity.
