I'm moving to Philly in two weeks so it is really handy to come across this. Thanks everyone! Can't wait to contribute.

Just saw this pop back up on the threads list. After reading #6, it's nice to finally know what a blowjob made of words looks like.
The list is hit & miss, overall pretty bad. Some of it is complete hogwash or written by some Philadelphia nutswinger. For instance, it's not just Philly that isn't taxed on essentials, it's the entire state! And to take it a step further, the city sales tax is 2% higher than the rest of the state!! #14 is strange too. In general I enjoy the seasons, but I wouldn't say the weather is always a great day.

The Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia are 20 communities throughout the Greater Delaware Valley that may interest you because they're so close to Philly.
Some are in Pennsylvania and others are in New Jersey. No matter their location, they are all “classic towns” because they have preserved their history, their character, and their main street charm. They can definitely offer you a great quality of life.
The characteristics that define the Classic Towns are accessibility, walkability, and livability. They have something for everyone.
You can take a closer look at these communities on their website Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia. The website highlights living, working, and playing in each of the Classic Towns so you can use it to learn about housing stock, recreational amenities, entertainment options, the business community, and much more.
Neat initiative on the DVRPC's part! When was this launched?
I note that three of the Classic Towns are actually neighborhoods within the city limits, and that there are some suburban communities that I would consider in the same league as these that are not on the list (Doylestown, Narberth, and Haddonfield Borough, to name three). I'm curious as to how these made the list and the others did not.
Still, I hope that new arrivals use this site as a resource. All of the communities highlighted here are attractive and walkable with many amenities.

just moved here!!!
Rofl...........true!!!
Stick with Italian or chinese food because Mexican food is not a regular in philly
What with the influx of immigrants from Puebla over the last decade or so, I don't think this statement applies any more. There are a number of good Mexican places in the Italian Market now thanks to those immigrants.
You can also find other ethnic cuisines in various parts of the city now, again thanks to immigration from abroad. Been up Castor Avenue in Castor Gardens lately?
