Moving to Philadelphia from Arkansas

Let me start off by saying that I am filling this out for a friend of mine that I went to high school with in the suburbs and ultimately moved to Arkansas.

Last month he got a job in Marlton, NJ and is considering the move to Philadelphia but needs some help nailing down a neighborhood. I had some ideas in mind but wanted to hear what everyone else might say...



When are you moving? Need to by up here by March 4th.

Where are you coming from? Arkansas

Why are you moving? Moving for Work, to be back in town with friends. (They all live between 20th and 16th on Spring Garden)

Where will you be working? I will be working in Marlton, NJ

Have you been here yet? Yes, a lot of visits, but I grew up in the burbs.

Will you buy or rent? Rent

If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Townhouse. $2,500 a month.

Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? Walk-up

Are you married or single? Married. It's my wife and I.

Do you have pets? 2 dogs. (of the smaller kind)

Do you want or need a yard? I would like a yard, but not required if near a park.

Are you keeping a car? Yes, 1 car.

Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Calm and Quiet.

What do you want to be closest to? Park

Shopping - Yes, that would be nice

Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.) - Yes

Nightlife - Nah

Train or subway stations - Yes, but not a must.

NJ sounds like the perfect spot for you. Not Phila.

We have looked in NJ...However the German Shepherd Rot Mix of our dogs are a no go everywhere we look.

Not to be flippant or anything, but can't you suggest your friend get on here himself? It seems to make more sense than a lot of "Ask him this," "Tell him this," etc.

He has a copy of the thread and can see it, its not a problem. He has the internet too

Seems to me that based on the descr a nice place in the upper SG/Lower Fairmount neighborhoods would fit nicely. Like around 20th and Mt Vernon area. ETA or Newkirk and Parrish, if you want some distance from your friends but still be accessible.
