    Wink Philly bound

Hello all. I am planning to move to Philly in August from the Harrisburg area. I have been told by several friends who have lived there to focus on the far northeast area. I did visit this area last week and it seemed decent. If anyone has specific info on the below listed housing complexes/areas, it is greatly appreciated

Ambassador apts ( off of bustleton & red lion road)
    Canterbury court (zip 19114)
Pine manor apts ( zip 19114)

I am a single mother with 3 kids ages 3, 11, and 15 so I have a limited budget. I am looking for a 2-3 bedroom and want to pay no more than $1,100. A safe and diverse area is very important, as are the schools. I have a car but will be using public transit most often as I am a native new yorker who is used to commuting.

    Thanks so much!

pretty good areas but Philly public schools are not good at all. Keep that in mind.. But if you have to pick an area you have picked the best area. Keep in mind that that part of Philly is very Russian. You can walk into stores and the signage is in Russian. Not English.. Seen that in person

Some Philadelphia schools are awful, and some are wonderful. You'll be fine in the areas you're looking into. Good luck.

dont people see the longer term trend of crime moving into the northeast part of the city? It has been an ongoing thing, slowly advancing up from north philly and the river wards. I wouldnt suggest that anyone move to the northeast, even the far northeast. Far northeast has seen cars being torched, old men beaten and robbed in a grocery store during the daylight, etc, in just the past month.

I would sugest moving to the northwest part of the city, from andorra to germantown, to mt airy....

I bet if you compared crime stats of much of NE Phila. to Germantown and even parts of Mt. Airy, they would be better in NE Phila.

Affordability. Plus the OP said diverse. NW is white/black. NE is all the colors of the rainbow. I don't think that she's looking in bad areas, either. The NE is huge, with very many pockets, many of which are quite pleasant, especially if you're looking for a 'suburb in a city feel'. Noone is recommending the Lower Northeast to her, and that is where the problems generally are.

Roxborough is another good area to look into. The public transportation is good and the schools are very good. It's extremely safe. The schools are very diverse. There are many community activities for kids.
