Default single girl moving to Philly in the Fall. Need lots of help..

I will be starting nursing school somewhere in Philly, next year. I'm applying to 6 different schools and have no idea where I'm going to go, yet. They are all spread out. So, I just want to move somewhere fun, affordable and safe. I am hoping to live somewhere that is close to public transport, so I won't have to bring my car. Is this a bad idea? Do I need a car? I hope not. I suck at parking. I'll be working in a nightclub and may be walking to my apt late a night. I'm not a chicken, but I also don't want to be stupid. I'm hoping to find a studio or shared apt for under $700, or so. Maybe under 800. I don't care if the living quarters are small, but I can't deal with dirty. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Will I be able to get around the city, quickly using public transportation? Thanks!

The nursing schools are all over the city. There's no reason to think about it seriously until you know which one. But yes, you'll definitely be able to get around the city by public transportation.

At under $700, you'll probably be better off getting a roommate than looking for a studio.

All true points. If you live in Center City though you can get pretty much anywhere in the city via transit pretty easily as it is the hub of the entire system, and it is a neighborhood area to be single. Finding a modest 2 BR with a roommate within your budget shouldn't be too hard.

Agreed. Center City is likely the best bet, although that might change if the school were PCOM.

Keep in mind if you get into Drexel that their nursing school isn't in University City.

Do you want to be close to the night club or the school ?

Also ask the nursing schools (once you get in) where their clinical placements are. Depending on the school, they may be in various places in the city-including in places that may be far from the school and/or where you live.
