Default How do you block parking spaces for moving truck?

I spent about 5 mins searching & couldn't find a thread on this - but I swear I read about it here before. Can anyone help me with figuring out how to get those signs to post on the street to block 3 parking spots for my moving truck? Thank you in advance.

    8. How do I temporarily prohibit parking for moving, work, delivery, etc?

Contact the Streets Department's Right of Way Unit at 215-686-5525/5531 no later than 3 business days (72 hours) prior to your need. Requests made later than 3 business days will not be processed. There is a permit fee of $25.00 per 40 feet of space (40 feet equals two parking spaces).
Maybe this info should be a sticky? In the moving/relocating thread?

    Based on my experience, you:
    1) Call the numbers on the Philly311 page (posted above by cya)
    2) Get a message on the first one (5525) saying that he's on vacation for 3 days
    3) Get a message on the second one (5531) saying to call the first one
    4) Call 311 and get the same numbers, then explain the above and get two different numbers.
    5) Call the first number from 311 and get no answer or voicemail at all
    6) Call the second number from 311 (the front desk of the Streets Department), explain steps 1 to 5, get put on hold, then get told to:
    7) Go to the Municipal Services Building, 1401 JFK Blvd, Room 940, between 9am and 2pm and pick up the permit in person.

Hoping #7 is lucky, because that's what I'm doing on my lunch hour tomorrow!

Going to the Municipal Services Building for the permit today was a BREEZE (so far). Went in - no line, VERY polite and helpful young man working the counter. No one else there, so no wait. Gave my info, wrote a check, got 2 placards. Now I just have to wait for the permit itself, which he said would arrive via email. (You put the permit in the window of the moving truck, so _it_ doesn't get a ticket for being in your no-parking space.)

Just a quick update - I called my local police district & they provided me with 2 signs - didn't have to pay anything; no line; no answering machine! Today, my tax dollars working!

This is currently happening as I type this.
    5500 rings and rings
    5525 mailbox full
    5503 not a valid number/
5531 tells you to go to the website but will take a message in the mailbox but no one calls back.

    what a load of bullshizzle!

Sorry to hear it hasn't improved in 2+ years. And I guess the guy at 5525 is still on vacation...

Based on my experience, you can go directly to the Municipal Services Building Room 940, pay with a check and get the permits on the spot. Or BadRomance got them from the local police district office at no charge. I guess our city is just so far beyond using the plain old telephone, when shoeleather will work!

And then the PPA ignores the permit anyway because they are hopelessly stupid and you put it on the driver side and not the curb side, and you have to waste time mailing in your ticket.

Wow, I missed that little side-drama! Then again, my moving truck had BIG advertising on the side, so it was obviously a mover. Plus, the police in my neighborhood are very friendly, and stopped to answer my questions when I was posting the signs the day before. They told me to check the zone shortly before the time period started, and let them know if any cars that didn't belong were there, and they'd get PPA on it (or see if it was a truck they recognized from a local business, and get the person to move it.) All in all, I had a surprisingly good experience once I gave up using the phone to contact the Municipal Services Building.

I can't believe the obvious answer wasn't given. That being: with trash cans, lawn chairs or stolen PGW cones.
