    Default Moving companies

I will be moving from Bala Cynwyd to Queen Village next month. I have some expensive/heavy furniture that I would feel more comfortable in the hands of professionals than friends. Can you recommend some good local companies that could quickly move furniture from my 1Br to the new place (straight move/non-trinity) for a reasonable fee?

We used Old City Movers when we moved, and we were very happy with them.

I've heard good things about Mambo as well.

Old City was started by people who used to work for Mambo, so I think the service is probably pretty much the same.

my experience with Mambo Movers was great- they are workhorses for sure. they showed and got right to work, didnt compliant about anything- and it was hot as hell! and they moved he out of a 3rd floor apt- they seemed to be pretty careful with our stuff, i dont believe their were any damages either.

I went with Logan Movers last time. We had a great experience.

Side question: does Mambo do out-of-state moves? ie: from NYC to Philly?

A great website and forum to weed out & find good moving companies is Moving: How to avoid Moving Company Scams

I used the site to narrow down moving companies for our move to center city. I think we ended up going with Mayflower, and my wife and I were quite pleased with them.

They might. Actually, the web site says they do so I called for an estimate and was told to call back the next week. I called back the next week and was told to call the next day. I called the next day and got voice mail. They didn't call me back.

However I know a lot of people who have used Mambo and been happy with their local move services.

I talked to Logan about my long distance move but it wasn't something they would do. I'd definitely hire them based on my conversations with them.

We used Mambo for an out-of-state move about five years ago. Maybe they've gotten better since then, but based on that experience, I wouldn't recommend them for that. We had a lot of problems, and since they get so many rave reviews online, I wondered afterward if it was just that they're fine for a local move but not an out-of-town one.

We've moved three times since then (and I hope not to move again for at least 20 years!) and the last two times we used Sultans of Schlep and had good experiences. They're a little pricey (not too bad, but a little higher than some others) but were worth it.

I've used Mambo twice (last fall and about 4 years prior to that) and had a fabulous experience both times. Both were within the city, so not thoughts on the out-of-state thing. I did live in a 4th floor walk up, and they had no issues at all with my heavy furniture or book collection. I highly recommend them.

    Default Gene's Moving

We have used Gene's Moving several times for local moves. Found their ratings on Checkbook to be very good. Good price & excellent service. Senior Management, who is tough to please, would not use anyone else.

I would suggest using a moving lead provider to get low prices. You'll probably have Mambo call you and other companies - then compare them against things like movingscam.com or come to this forum. You'll end up getting the cheapest price possible and you'll gain the most benefit. Some common lead providers are Billy.com's Philadelphia Movers or 123 movers or movers.com.

Just used Mambo to help empty my parents' house and load their POD in New Jersey. They then brought some furniture & boxes to my apartment in Philly... and removed my old sofa, dropping it at the dumpster.

They were WONDERFUL and saved us a lot of stress & aggravation.

They did get a little lost on the way to our house in NJ. It was amusing when they said they were out front and I went running out on the cell going "um, where???" Apparently there is another street named the same thing not so far away. They did not charge us for any of the additional travel time than it would be from the bridge directly to our house.

So far I like the services of moving right along, they provides quite good facilities at right time with correct price. They even help you to settle the goods and also providing the facilities for cleaning your homes, or other areas of home.
We are one of the best NYC movers in whole city/town, providing the best facility of moving of goods from one place to another.

Old City was great and very responsive to our concerns.
